    Hi

Well my roblem is that my new ML3706 came with vista, but i need xp so i formatted my drive and realized there are no drivers in the gateway site for that os and some of the drivers provided by devices manufacturers are really hard to find, has anyone of you did the same?

Im having problems currently with the xpress200m chipset.. any ideas?

Here are all the drivers (except for the audio which no one has been able to figure out) http://carverrealestategroup.com/ML3706-XPDRIVERS.ZIP

The video card is somewhat tricky to install you have to manually select the driver you wish to install from the "have disc" section. Other than not having audio everything will work great! Good luck!

    You guys ROCK!!!

I have the same problem. I just loaded XP last night and have had a rough time with the drivers, even the latest ATI catalyst drivers for the video card was giving me problems. I will try these out.

I can't beleive they put XP on this machine when it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. XP chugs big time. I'de rather have a slimmer OS and save RAM and processor power. I don't think I will be switching any of my machines to Vista anytime soon.

    Thanks!

Vista is ridiculous. I have to wait about a minute for my 3706 to start running from hibernation. Then it gives me various errors, like windows problem reporting has stopped working. I'm spoiled on my two year old Pentium M 1.7 G, 512 ram laptop. It runs flawlessly and boots up from hibernation in 5 seconds. I ordered another 512 ram to see if performance will improve, but I hardly doubt it. Can someone give me one advantage of running vista other than a prettier interface? I think this machine would run xp very well compared to my old laptop.

You can make XP desktop look like Vista. Vista is slow even copying files is slow. Like the Apple commerical "allow or deny access" is annoying.

Hey guys, have any of you tried using your Virtual PC 2007? I had the same problem, bought a Gateway laptop, couldn't find drivers blah blah went back to Vista. I ended up virtualizing my xp pro and it works great. I have dual monitors and 2gb ram and turion 64x2, one for vista, one for xp. Peace

Thanks to all for the information. With an extra 1GB Kingston SODIMM, Vista runs passably, but it's kind of a nuisance and not noticeably better in any meaningful way, so I wiped the C: partition and installed XP and the drivers posted here. Everything works perfectly. If I change my mind, I'll re-install Vista from the protected partition. I plan to swap the HD for a 5400RPM Hitachi too when the right deal comes along. 7200 might be better, but probably not worth the extra heat and power drain.

I have a 7200rpm drive in there and it's faster, but in general the laptop already gives out a lot of heat

Not seeing three USB2.0 ports listed in the notebook specs. Device manager shows two USB1.1 ports, and one USB2.0 ports.

I upgraded my gateway to 1G ram and it runs pretty decently, but not as quickly or smoothly as my other laptop running xp. I also get a lot of error messages like programs that have stopped working. That never happens with xp. I'm thinking of downgrading to xp until vista sp1 is released. But it would be nice if the SD slot would work under xp.
