    Wireless N limited

    The max I can get with my 7801u laptop is 72Mbps. My router is max at 300Mbps. So I don't know what to do.

    your wifi card probably only supports draft-N.

    maybe its your router? mines at about that, but my network speed is 1Gbps, I have the Dlink extreme gaming router

    Make sure you have WAP2/AES configured, frequency and channel the same for router and wifi card..... WAP2/AES(Security) for 300Mbps.

    Does this requirement for WPA2/AES security in order to get Wireless N performasnce apply to just the Intel wifi cards, or is it an 'across the board standard' thaty affects all manufacturers. I have donre a lot of reading and have found many different conflicting opinions.

    Across the board and without security your cap would be 65-125Mbps. Lowend with non matching manufacture wifi card and router and high end with same manufacturer. Yes other things can affect wifi being im getting 430Mbs which should be 450Mbps but some little thing is eating 20Mbps but im happy. Anyways you should be able to get 300Mbps if all is setup.

    Some other things that effect wifi networking is same draft n versions, sadly your wall compound, and having dual band routers.

    Oh with my old intel 5100 wifi card i was only able to get 230Mbps and wierd DCs so I upgraded to 5300 so far so good.
