I have a Gateway P-7811FX that is stock other than using the slightly hacked display drivers that allow me to run the latest version of the Nvidia display drivers.

My problem is that when playing WoW I will randomly get an Error #132. And when I say randome I mean it, I might get it after loading a characters and being ingame for just a moment, I might get it after being ingame for hours, and I sometimes don't get it at all. I did some research and nobody really seems sure why this error occurs some say overheating, memory errors, drivers, etc. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with their 7811. I was considering a BIOS upgrade to see if that would help but the state of the new BIOS for the 7811 seems to be in flux to put it kindly.

I can't believe it is bad drivers or memory or overheating because I can play Lord of the Rings Online with graphics settings maxed and have never had a moment's issue and it is a far more demanding game than WoW.

At any rate, any input on this would be helpful, thank you in advance.

Have you tried running the repair utility within WoW? If your wow directory is anythig like mine it's been copied to numerous machines and has seen so many mods it would make your head spin. Sometimes you just need to start fresh.

This occurs randomly on my desktop as well. It doesn't have any real known solution. I think one person fixed it with formatting and reinstall of WoW.

@ LyteWing: OT, but did you have any issues installing and playing LOTRO on the 7811.
I get mine after the weekend and have been quite fearful of what might hit me regarding setting up and playing LOTRO.....

Any advice or was it clean from the beginning?

    Thanks and regards

This is from a clean install of WoW from the original DVDs. There was no problem during the install at all and only a minor issue with the first patch (it did not auto-install because I had to run it with administrator access) but after that all other patches installed flawlessly. And I get the error with or without addons. So to sum up, this is a clean install of WoW...I even defraged my drives before the install.

I suspect this is some sort of bug in WoW that is hard to track down and so random that Blizzard is not working on it that hard.

You have nothing to fear. The install for LOTRO goes flawlessly so you have no worries there. The only small issue I had was with the graphics when I first installed....it had some weird color errors but they always cleared up when I hit ALT-TAB like I was trying to get to the desktop. The problem was corrected when I upgraded the Nvidia drivers with the latest version. You can find detailed instructions for doing this on this thread... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=265740

That will also net you a decent performance increase. Change the settings to your liking and enable DX10 support...the game looks AMAZING on this laptop! You made a very wise decision purchasing this laptop...in all honesty I don't know how Gateway can sell these units this cheap with them stuffed with all this gooey geeky goodness.

Heh, contact their "tech support" and it becomes painfully obvious where they are saving the money.

@ Litewing: you really make my day!!!
My only lingering concern with this notebook was its performance with LOTRO, or better, Vista performance with LOTRO.
Anything I should be aware of regarding the Ettenmoors with 2-4 Raids battleing it out at one place?
For me, living in germany, the 7811 is a steal (regardless of the GW service, service here is crap for any notebook anyway, so I personally couldn't care less). Comparable machines would cost me here at least 2.5 (no, not US$, Euros!!!), that is, if I would get these components all in one machine at all....

    Thanks and regards.

I have not been in huge raid situations yet but I have been in areas populated with many mobs and from what I have seen there and my general experience with the performance of this game on the 7811FX, you should have no worries! Just make sure you set your power plan in Vista to High Performance when you play the game so you get all the power from your laptop....I think it defaults to Balanced.

Enjoy your amazing laptop! If I can help you in any way please let me know.

I was having the same issue with world of warcraft on my 7811fx. I resolved it by going into my WOW folder and deleting the following folders, Cach, Interface, W T F (had to space due to filter, and yes that is a folder). When you load WOW next all of your setting will have been reset but this worked for me. I recommend backing up these folders just to be on the safe side, but WOW should automatically create them on startup.
