I took in my laptop in on January 5th to Bestbuy, because the repair shop I took it to did nothing with it for 5 weeks, waste of time.
Now Bestbuy has had it for 5 weeks, and it has not shipped out because the serial number "does not exist", has to do with the Acer takeover of Gateway.
I will quite possibly be getting a full store credit for what I paid, 1400 CAD, which is really good considering it is not worth near that much.
The selection of Bestbuys laptops is brutal though, and no laptop they have in stock, let alone desktops will match the graphics power that my laptop had.
Anyone else have problems similar to this?
I am just livid it takes a bunch of pimple popping teens 5 weeks to figure out what to do with this laptop, im sure Gateway is also at fault, im not sure how the serial number cannot exist.

They do have a pretty limited selection as they tend to shoot for the most widespread market. which means integrated graphics galore and a few dedicated GFX, sprinkled with 2-3 "gaming" notebooks for good measure. What was the issue that you couldn't repair yourself?

I was messing around with the internals, and it just wouldnt boot. The multimedia bar lights would light up for a second and then nothing. It wanted to boot but would not. Something was shorting out, Im assuming a solder blew, or something along those lines. Either way there was nothing I could do.
Its my own fault obv, but the stupidity of bestbuy and gateway astounds me, and its still within warranty. -
I'm not sure about CDN law, but if they refuse to render service I think they can offer you a full cash refund.

as a fellow canuck, i had the absolute worst service experience with a desktop i bought from them years back. i waited 6 weeks for a simple defective mobo replacement which was under warranty

haha well i finally got somewhere, we spoke with the store manager, and he wasnt an idiot like the others. He is letting me take an open box laptop until my laptop is returned and fixed, which is great so I will have a laptop finally.

i havent had my 6860 since january 15th. my gpu fan stopped working so i took it to best buy and they sent it out to their repair center. i get it back on the 4th and they tell me they replaced the mobo and it tested fine. i take it home and try to play the fear 2 demo and my gpu fan is still not working. i took it right back and all they could do was send it back to the repair center. no laptop for over a month sucks.
