That's an ES chip... It may work no problem. However, it also may not work and you can't really call Intel and ask them for tech support on a chip that you're not supposed to have.

I purchased both my CPU and LCD panel on eBay. I have been buying laptop parts there for a few years. Mostly good outcomes. Only got stuck once and only for <$20.

    eBay laptop purchases:
All the parts to build "system #2" in sig.
All the parts to build Compaq E500 from scratch (first laptop).
    Various batteries and docking stations.
    Repair parts for friends laptops.

That seller has 100% feedback rep. You can see a sellers feedback percentage directly under the seller's name. The seller also has sold/bought 160 items. That info is displayed directly to the right of the seller's name. If you click that number, you will see he has sold many chips to many satisfied customers.

would also like to mention to check ALL the items that seller has been selling according to his feedbacks. if he sold 160 pieces of ashtrays for $5 each then thatll be obvious that the account has been hacked. a big leap from selling ashtrays to processors :D

The only thing that bugs me about the 8600 upgrades is that I replaced a dead ATI 9600 and bought the newest CPU (2.1Ghz) and RAM just a few weeks before I saw the P-6860FX. If only I would have seen the Gateway first, I could have saved a few bucks... :D

FYI... That Dell still runs WoW at high settings @45-60fps! But DirectX10 is soooo pretty!

if you have been watching daily,x9000s are goin at a rate of around $405US to $425US and these prices include shipping. so u can get a non ES x9000 for around this price. I saw a x9000 buy it now auction for $395US and when I tried to buy it someone beat me to it so I bought a T9300 for $255US buy it now deal that I couldn't refuse.

yes that T9300 is indeed oem. The T9300 was shipped mounted on a pink foam to secure pins from being bent in a plastic tray in a bubble wrap package. The performance is excellent and is holding temps really well since its been about 2 weeks since i got it- idle at 39c and max 57c- so no complaints here =)

Seller was cool and straight forward about his auction and very fast shipping. I know he has more T9300s and am probably gonna get 2 more from him if I can manage to get a deal at $400US-$450US

thanks for the link. there is actually an X7900 for $300 AU which is about 290CAD, and 35 shipping. So a little over 300 and I have a very good processor, very fast. The X9000 would be nice, but honestly its the same thing as an X7900, just a die shrink.

i have the cpu since April, never had any problems, actually i love it.
however [email protected] is a tad too hot to my peace of mind, so on day to day basis using 2.8ghz.

as to the seller, great communication, answered all my emails in less than an hour and delivery was very fast. the cpu came padded inside a small rigid plastic box that was wrapped inside a padded envelope, no way it could have been damaged unless run over by a car.

actually i had doubts before i installed it whether it was really an x7800 as to the numbers on printed on the cpu (es cpus are a bit difficult to recognize by those numbers) the seller had assured me it is an x7800 and that i should go ahead and install it. it was.

lastly if i may say, it seems the t9300 cpus run much cooler, so if you are worried about temps you might want to consider the t9500 which may be capped to 2.6ghz but brings along a 6mb cache and seems to be very well priced by our "genius".

the p-6381 and the x7800 was a streak of very successful buys for me :D

lol... the seller was so impressed with my new 3dmarks

thanks for sharing, that really helps me feel better about doing this. and at just over $300 i see no reason why I should not get the X7900, my room is always quite cool so I should not be seeing a heat problem.

depends from what I saw, i see some for under 300 to over 400 and close to 500. I might as well just go for an X7900 since they are the same thing pretty much, one is just a die shrink.

Be sure to look for Dook's review of the 180 powersupply box. The biggest reason i never went to an x9000 was the huge jump in power demand the chip required. With our almost to weak powerblock i was always worried about overloading it.

Hopefully the 180 will work for our systems and we can all start to upgrade to those and enjoy plenty of extra power with out worries of the overheating block.

narsnail, id like to inform you before you decide to buy an ES chip from ebay

    http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=407 . Please read pages 1-5

To break it down, ES chips do not come with Intel Warranty. So lets say 6months down the track and the chip burns out, you just lost $$$.

Since these ES chips isnt actually the full product and used more for experimental purposes, chances are it will burn out quicker than the OEM or retail version.

Im not saying they are bad, alot of gateway users have had success. Just wanted to make sure you dont get decieved by the price. Make sure you get DOA and 90days warranty!

thanks for the link and the heads up, obviously I take a risk, and I would prefer a non ES, if I can find one i will for sure go with that, but if the price is right i might just take that risk.
