Do you guys think it is worth it to get a X9100 now or just wait to get a new laptop in 2011 when sandy bridge finally comes out?
I mostly play Civ 5 these days and I think i'm CPU limited...

A new leaading edge computer with a decent GPU will be expensive. APR $250 for a CPU that will at least hold you over till the SB computer prices come down a bit sounds like a good investment to me.............
-
If you can wait, wait.
-
nah dont buy a 9100
live with a slower cpu for a couple more ticks games run fine on your machine for now.
250$ for the difference that will makee doesnt make sense to me
now 200$ for the 120 gb ssd thats on sale now, that makes sense. -
Yeah but a SSD isn't going to help you in CPU intensive stuff. I would go for it.
-
I already have a decent SSD anyway... I'm really tempted to get the CPU though.

If you have and love your 1920x1280 screen it is a very worth while investment. If not it is more of a GPU call. play your games at stock settings and Video OC'd and if at OC it plays better but not quite where you would like the playabilty at wait for SB to come out and get a better GPU in the mix. If the GPU gets you what you need now spending $250 for the CPU and waiting a year or so for prices to fall, hardware to get faster and moreof the system bugs worked out then you are much better off waiting on a new system IMHO.

Looks like sandy bridge laptops are starting to appear... there's even a Gateway model here Gateway LX.R9702.036

If you play lots of RTS games, then investing in a x9100 definitely won't disappoint you. Sandy bridge is nice and just about to come out, but like Tanware mentioned above, a new sandy bridge system with good video card won't be cheap, if you intend to keep your current laptop for a few months longer, going for a x9100 now and then buy a SB laptop later next year won't be a bad move at all, by that time they will be more stable due to bug fixes, and very likely cheaper too.
If your performance is limited by your CPU, then you will get a nice boost going to a x9100, even at the stock speed 3.06Ghz, it's on par with a i5-540m. With a little overclock(very easy with throttlestop), it's going to be on the same level of a i7-620M. If you can find a good deal, I say go for it!
Speaking from a user just upgraded from a P8400 to a x9100 one week ago!
X9100 or Sandy Bridge
