    The X9100 here:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...70666&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2157wt_1165

    is $318. The T9800 here:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...46663&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_7586wt_1165

    is $360

Wondering is the price is worth the heat and if these sellers check out for anyone who has bought from them before. I also do lots of heavy editing in After Effects and would like to do some of the rendering of smaller projects on my laptop for travelling.

If you have a 7805 with one of these how has it worked out for you?

Got a C0 stepping ES X9100 in my 7805u; idles around 50-54C and gets up to 76C under load. Marathon stress-testing sessions (8hrs+) with OCCT/Core Damage have raised temps as high as 82C lol.

    X9100 is undervolted to 0.975V on all multipers bar 10.5x, 11x and 11.5x. At 11.5x, it's undervolted to 1.075V.

Using a modded CryoLX cooler @ 12v + Evercool NB-MA1 USB fan extractor + ICD7 application on CPU and northbridge.

Might as well stick with the T9800 given that you cant OC past 3GHz on the 7805; much to my dismay after i received my notebook!

These chips are both E0 stepping thankfully. Good to hear you've got an ES. Haven't bought a non retail processor before and was wondering if i should be weary of ES/QS models.

Those are great temps, but you also seem to have some massive cooling going on there. Tho undervolting is a technique I had overlooked when thinking about temps.

You say I may as well stick with the T9800 bc the X9100 wont overclock past 3GHz, but will the T9800 possibly OC higher than 3.06 (or did you mean since the X9100 is above 3ghz you cant overclock it)? Also did you take into consideration the $60 difference somehow? The X9100 was cheaper

    Thanks for your advice :)

T9900 is a better comparison with the x9100. The only difference is the T9900 uses less power and the x9100 has unlocked multipliers. If I had to choose between a x9100 or a T9800 then I would definitely get the x9100.

    ^Agreed to above.

Get the X9100 since it's cheaper and if you are not worried about your laptop running a little hotter everyday. It's rated at 45W TDP, while the T9800 or T9900 are 35W TDP. Many people have good temperatures with the X9100, even without any cooling device. Make sure you use Artic Silver 5 paste or better on the X9100 for best cooling. This is what I have collected from reading many threads on the X9100--I am also in the hunt for one. :p

looking for a X9100 for <$300? let me know if you find one between now and tomorrow.

and thanks for the advice all. I'm pretty set on the X9100 at this point. Though I'm still curious as to what HelloMoto meant about not being able to OC above 3GHz

^The X9100 is an extreme CPU, so it can be overclocked. However, the motherboards in our P-7811, P-7805u, etc. do not support overclocking past 3.0Ghz. So it's basically capped at 3.0Ghz, unless Gateway finds a way. I hope one day.

BTW, good decision on the X9100. I'm sure you can also use it on another system in the future if they support overclocking.

I just got a t9800. I'm running stress tests right now. I would personally never get an X9100, but I do have a 7811 with a smaller heatsink. The t9800 idles a lot higher than the stock p8400, but the max temp seems to be in the low 60s running orthos, which is about the same as my p8400. T9900 is probably best, but they're so damn expensive.

I've got a Zalman NC2000 and am using ICD on the northbridge and CPU. I would have that Cryo LX modded like Hello_Moto, but they freaking ran out after I ordered. Still trying to get my hands on it, as I have the fans already.

Oh snap! Time to change my sig

Yeah, my TZS0 just spiked running 3dmark06. Just what I was worried about. GPU isn't overclocked either. So I will definitely have to undervolt. That damn firefly forest. Always happens there.

i have a 7805u and an es x9100 with E0 stepping. i havent undervolted my cpu at all which according to cpu z version 1.41 runs at a voltage of 1.238v on high performance profile (on power saver it goes down to 1.0v) anyway at this voltage my cpu idles at 33-35c with no additional cooling. if i introduce my extremely craptastic laptop cooler i can get it to an idle in the upper 20's. i think at full load my cpu has gotten to about 80c but that with occt so in real testing IE games it doesnt go over 70c (thats crysis) i used some artic cooling mx-2 paste on mine (i do want to give icd7 a try but i read that this paste is the best out there http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835150080) maybe a combo of that paste on cpu and icd7 on chipset woulld be best.

anyway i found a better seller to buy an x9100 from. this one http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Intel-CORE2...in_0?hash=item3a5189b35e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 i bought mine from this seller. its a bit cheaper and you can if you live in usa get overnight shipping for an extra $10 (make sure you tell the seller before buying it though or in the notes for the purchase) a bigger reason to get from this seller is that if you live in usa it ships from usa so youll get it much faster. i ordered mine on a sunday shipped out monday got it tuesday at 9am ( of course i payed the extra $10 for overnight shipping though) oh and remember if you get overnight that you have to sign for it so if your gonna be at work make sure you send it there or youll have to make a mad dash for usps before they close lol not fun i learned my lesson from that awhile ago

EDIT: i just read through the fine print on the cpu i mentioned above. it says it ships from china which is weird cause when i ordered it said ships from usa. even though it says the item is in hoboken it says china hmmm. anyway you might wanna ask where it will ship from. if from china disregard what i said about overnighting it. could be that the seller ran out of cpus at usa location and has to ship from china

HEAT and power consumption is a consideration amongst a number of variables when considering a mobile processor. Since there is negligable performance gains from the unlocked multiplier and higher power consumption of the x9100 I would suggest the t9800.

true, but I'm not too concerned about power consumption. I'm going to be doing a little video rendering on this thing. And I lug my adapter around with me all day anyway (Im a big guy so its not so heavy)

also, hanime suggested that i may be able to use it in another machine later, making more use of the unclocked multipliers. and Ive found an amazing price for the x9100 so im pretty much set on them now

    thanks tho

yeah i got mine in two days but like i said the description when i bought it said it would ship from usa but now it says ships from china so you might want to check with the seller first but if it ships from usa you can do what i did and get overnight shipping and have it in two days.

its weird how it says the item is in hoboken but description says ships from china so make sure you check with seller first. although itll still most likely be a bit cheaper then the others. with all that said i got mine fine from em so you should too (it was very clean too lol). with something as sensitive as a cpu i would pay any extra to get faster shipping though even if it ships from china (just some advice from me :D)

i definitely will get it from him. his name came up when i was doing some research here, but her was referred to as shirleyfu w/o the numbers so i never found him on ebay. Im glad youve led me to him. They also mentioned in that other post i read that he was from china posing as being from US and that made somebody upset. he was probably in china when he shipped to you so i hope i get it in two days. wish me luck :)

I can buy Marlboro cigarettes from China @ $25 per carton when they are upwards of $60 in the US.

The problem is the packaging and overall appearance is "Marlboro", the actual tobacco is inferior to generic.

Many of the chips that come from aftermarket sellers in China are repackaged overclocked, inferior chips. While it may say X9100, it could be a P8700 that has been modified to run @3.06. How you know? every time!

How much overclockability are you going to get out of a P8700 thats already running @3.06?

I don't know if this guy is good enough to fool the BIOS into thinking a p8700 is a X9100. but if he is, then it doesnt seem to matter because the 3 other X9100 hes sold have had no problems that any buyer has brought up

Agreed.... I've seen lots of problems with these CPUs, and to be honest I'd recommend spending a little more to go through one of the reputable people many of us have used. I'd hate to see you spend $300 and be SOL when the seller disappears, then have to spend more money on a good processor...than to just spend a little extra up front.

am I incorrect? seriously let me know if i am, but the alienware guys buy from him. theyve said many people at NBR buy from him.

I initially thought that buying from an overseas guy was sketchy, but then i also know thats where these chips are made. so extremeprocessor working out of taiwan and shirleyfu out of china seemed less risky after taking that into account. seriously let me know if i shouldnt go to shirley, because there are only 2 of these things left and 3 days left. im buying tomorrow if possible

i bought my x9100 from shirley and its fine i dunno how you could possibly mod a p8700 into an x9100 considering the x9100 has unlocked multiplier but if you can then i bought the wrong processor. is it even possbile to fool the intel cpu identify utility? i dunno maybe im a noob at this but i just dont see how thats possible for a x9100 cpu maybe like p8600 and p8700 but i dont think the x9100 would be like that

ShirleyFu is out of NJ. Some people here at NBR are friends with the person. When ordering through Shirley it may come from NJ or China. I'm assuming it depends on in stock supply. In the end it's coming from the same place. I only buy retail or OEM so I never dealt with the person myself.

One other thing, if your concerned about power with these procs look at the P9700 instead of the T9800 or T9900.
