Hey all,
I had all but disregarded Gateway as an option for my new laptop purchase, given their , history... and the fact i dont think i have ever seen/heard of a good gateway experience. But, for bang for the buck the 7805u is one of the top available. I will mainly be playing WoW, and Crysis. So, my big question to those out there that have this computer, is what kind of preformance do you get with these two games? The only other games in which I play are based upon the steam engin, and well if my current aging desktop can still hit 30+fps in them , then i'm not too worried about it. I have also talked to the manager of the local bestbuy, and if I purchase two of these (me and my wife) , and their 3 year OMFG I dropped it and it broke warranty, I will also get 2x Targus backpacks and a Linksys WirelessN router thrown in for free. Helps to know your local BB Manager hehehe. The OCing of the processor is that done with software or do I Have to go through the bios? Only looking to try to get it up to 2.5 maybe 2.6ish.
Thank you all![]()

Hey, sorry I don't have a 7805u but I wanted to comment on the warranty. Save yourself some money and visit this thread.

Yea, I used that as a bargining chip , I will acctualy spend about 100 less doing it all through best buy with the deal i worked out. That's the only reason why I will be going through the BBwarranty

Unfortunatly there is no overclocking of the CPU's
Our BIOS pretty much lock us out of any of the good stuff. The only way your going to get to 2.5+ is to get a new CPU -

The CPU in it is great for today's apps. In another 2 years, you'll probably want to upgrade anyway regardless of whether or not you can OC. And congrats on that deal, I wish BB took college students seriously enough to let us work out a deal like that.

I went to highschool with the local Manager. So, yea, it's the equilivent of getting a "Friends/family" discount which appearntly they no longer offer...

It definately will play source engine with a vengence, I got 133 FPS in the video stress test for Counterstrike source at 1920x1200 all settings maxed.

I play some warcraft, and it drops to about 25 in the major cities. When im out venturing on my own it jumps to 50ish. No problems. With everything turned on its highest. Overall im very happy with my 7805U

AW, do you ever play in windowed mode? if so, what kind of FPS do you get then? I usualy play windowed when my kids are home and fullscreen when i can dedicate my attention to it. see also farming windowed raiding FS

 Yes that is windowed mode.

Sweet ,I guess the only other game I am worried about is Crysis and Crysis warhead, anyone have those and have benchmarked them?
 -

I actually have them both loaded up. I briefly played crysis and this notebook will play it reasonably well. While it will play with everything on high, it will play best with a mixture of medium / high. I also have loaded up 3dmark06 and vantage. Ill check them out tonight and post more info for you if you like

That would be awesome, thank you very much

Not neccessarily true, I have played Crysis for sometimes and it works well in the early game on high setting but not so much when you go under the icy tunnel, and the snow storm place. I feel a little laggy even when i turn everything to medium when I was playing at those places. Roughly about 15+ fps maybe(based on observation)? Maybe that's the best thing that you can expect from a gaming laptop. I still like it very much

Ok, i just ran a 3dmark06 and got a 9231. Not to bad! I dont have vantage loaded on here yet. I played a little crysis warhead and like i described above, with everything on high, its pretty choppy. If i back down on some settings, its playable. This is in windowed mode 1280x1024. Hope this helps!
