Those drives really perform almost identically, and IIRC the hitachi has a lower power consumption.

The problem with those is the heat they generate......honestly, check out these Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT 500GB 2.5” HDD.

I put two in RAID 0, and they perform exceptionally....1TB of storage for under $200....and they are very cool and dead silent.

I prefer WD hard drives over most other brands, and the WD will give a miniscule preformance increase over the hitachi's... but as an end user you wont notice it ever.

Pretty much go for what ever you think is a better deal. But as i said i will generally always go with a WD hard drive in any situation

Ive never had to deal with any hitachi problems but I absolutely REFUSE to buy anything with the Western Digital name. I have had over 5 Western Digital drive failures (From NAS to 2.5 HDD to 3.5 HDD) and their RMA system is absolutely terrible and the customer support is one of the worst I have ever dealt with in my entire history of IT work. It took us close to a year to get a replacement for a 3.5" HDD due to their shady and ignorant customer support. They consistently made mistakes and shipped the same broken drive back to us 3 times before FINALLY giving us a working replacement, almost a year later.

Be very thankful if you have a working and reliable western digital drive, if you have any problems with it I wish you the best of luck.

I have nothing against the drives themselves, I also have several that work great, however my experience with their failures has led me to refuse the purchase of any of their drives in the future.

i really used to love seagates, but now their prices are higher compared to cheaper if not better brands.

they remind me of apple products: premium price for mediocre products

I've had really good luck dealing with all the HDD companies. I've had a few replaced with WD and Samsung, and every experience was quick and painless.

I had the complete opposite experience with Seagate. I have RMA'd several seagate drives and they have always been easy to deal with and we have gotten a new drive very quickly.

I'm not saying you will have the same experiences as me, just letting you guys know what I have gone through.

yep and unfortunatly everyones experiences are more than likely 100% true.

Thats the problem with brand loyality in electronics. There is very rarely a concensus becuase with just a few bad items it can completely skew an individuals opinion.

All in all over the years in computing i will say that WD has never let me down. But neither have any of the other brands really. I've had drives last for a few days and drives that still work 10 years later. Its all a roll of the dice.

Basically get what you want that gives the best preformances for the best price point and you'll very rarely go wrong. ;)

Hitachi and Fujitsu's are really reliable when it comes to Hd's...
I wasnt a fan of my WD when I had one.....that doesnt really mean a whole lot though..
