i have the 7811fx and i have questions concerning bios and raid

first off, do i need to upgrade my bios in order to use raid 0? and if so, where do i get it...and is there a risk? has anyone had problems? i'm really paranoid about updating bios, because on my old compy i once updated with the wrong bios, and fried my motherboard...so i had to get a new motherboard...obviously, i don't want a similar thing to happen to my lappy....so any risks? any precautions i should take?

when setting up for raid 0, do both harddrives need to be the same size? do i need to do a clean format?

    thanks in advance

Yes you must update your BIOS to enable RAID on the 7811, for some reason gateway didnt think to have that enabled in their stock BIOS.

As to where to get it... look up at the top of this subforum at the BIOS sticky. Will give you all of the info you need. As to risk... meh its generally pretty easy to do and unless you're flashing something completely wrong the computer should be fine.

As to setting up a RAID Array... generally its a good rule of thumb that ALL specifications of the hard drives be identical when putting them in a RAID. It just makes for and easier itme. But no if your size/speed/cache/etc are different then the raid will gimp the stronger drive to match the weaker one (resulting in a very poor preforming array).
Yes you will have to do a clean install (or a clone install if you choose)
