i cant check esata or hdmi cuz i dont have an esata hard drive, or one of those hard drive enclosures blah blah, and i dont have an hdmi cable (even though i do have a lcd tv >_<)
but alright, check the dvd drive make sure it works, is there a program to bench that? -

i would just check it it burns correctly a dvd... for the esata if never going to use it then dont even care about it

as for the hdmi.. omg!! buy one
u will be shocked at thedifference between svideo and hdmi

oh no no, i dont use svideo for my tv, i use vga for my xbox 360.
but alright, also, should i even bother to run hdtach on it? is there a problem with the hard drives? who makes them btw? -

i did saw a post around there that calls the following " i inserted a 320 hard drive and everyting works, when i come back to the 200 one it just crashes" but.. i think its the only one ive ever seen.. i wouldnt bother that much

oh what about testing the cpu temp under stress, should i just use F@H at 100% or use Prime95?
 -

F@H SMP can help determine if your system is stable. If you have a copy of 3DVantage, that can help as well.
 -
i have a copy. PIRATING IS BAD! MY COPY IS LEGIT!
 -

we dont talk about them things here. the mods hate us talking about warez.

 fixed post.

 good job....

oh also, forgot this, what about installing a fresh copy of vista ultimate 64 bit. is that allowed, i read on a review on the best buy site that said installing any other OS besides the one that comes with it voids the warranty, if thats true, just..........wow
forgot this one as well.
how can i check for dead or stuck pixels? -
I read that as well somewhere else, but that's why you make a image copy of the machine before you do that or leave the image copy on the HD. Just to be safe, I restored my previous 7811 before taking it back for another one just to play it safe.
 -
how would i go about doing this?
 -

There's a 10 GB hidden partition that has a ghost image of your OS. As long as you don't delete that partition or uninstall the Gateway Recovery Manager (or whatever it's called), you can easily restore the computer to it's original state (as if when you first booted up the computer for the first time). You also have the option to burn back-up disks. Although, I can not verify if it's like HP where you can only make one copy. If that's the case, I'd see if it would let me make an ISO image and then copy those ISO images to an external drive just to be safe.

 oh **** thats quite useful.
 -

I just used Clonezilla to clone the whole HD before I started monkeying with my system.
Clonezilla is an Open Source program similar to Ghost... -

alright what about laptop coolers, whats a good one that works well with the 7811?
 -

It is not like HP based on my experience with the 7811fx. I was able to create 3 sets of the recovery CDs/DVDs with no problem (although DL DVD burning is not supported).

I find that the Crysis game box works exceptionally well.

buying a P-7811 FX tomorrow
