Gateway's Recovery CD and DVD don't seem to allow making room for other partitions on a drive. I screwed up my xp partition trying to resize it. The thing is that I can't change the sizes beforehand because Gateway's OEM Discs just use up the entire drive. The DVD also creates a (D :) drive for the recovery. I'd like to use only half of my Hard drive for xp on my gateway laptop, but it seems I can't do that unless I buy a non-Gateway Windows XP disc.

Gparted is what I used and things got a little screwy. I can't logon because there is no users to click on, just a tiny xp logo.

My concern is that there is no way to put xp on a customized sized partition until after the fact (like I did with GParted). So I can't reinstall XP with the Gateway cd without wiping out the entire HD.
