I upgraded to Windows 7 today and the 12GB recovery partition is now useless and actually doesn't have any content in it any more. The disk management utility will not let me delete the partition. Does any one know what software to use?

give gpart a try.

I can't remember how I did it. I suppose it is hidden. Maybe Windows hard disk manager can see it if gparted can't.

That doesn't work for Windows 7, or at least it wouldn't install for me.
As for gpart, the download is an .ISO for some reason and I'm having a of a time installing Daemon Tools.
I managed to install Daemon Tools and I mounted the ISO but there aren't any executables.
OK I think I get it, I'm supposed to burn gpart to a disc. The only problem is that I don't have one... -
Yes burn gpart iso to disk or try using a usb flash drive

You have to reduce your admin security level, then it will let you delete it and re-size partition. Under User account control settings, lower one.

Well I found a program called MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition that did the trick. Little did I know that expanding my main partition by 12GB would take 2 hours 40 minutes.
JRSOR, I'm curious if lowering my security level would have done the trick, but no way to find out now -
For what it's worth Pendrivelinux has a little program named MultiBoot ISO. You can easily put Gparted and others on a bootable flash drive. MultiBoot ISO is a great little tool for building a multiboot flash drives with menu. It even enables you to download and install the programs to your flash drive from a menu. Of course you can add others not on the menu with a little creativity.
delete the recovery partition
