Hello all :) my first post :D
    I was wondering how i disassemble a MX 3414?
I cant figure out how to open it :S
Can anybody tell me how? or maybe give me a good site?
The reason i want to open it up is that my laptop turns on but the screen is completly black for me :S
It sounds like it is starting something not sure if it starts windows becuase i hear no sound out of the speakers.
Anybody knows what it could be?
Im thinking that its something with the bios or something but i realy dont know.
Maybe remove the battery for 15min? i have no clue :S

You just start at the bottom and remove screws. Be delicate, careful and keep all parts separately. Don't open it up if you are not comfortable with remembering how your dissembled it. All the screws need to be kept in different piles to avoid replacing wrongs screws in different areas.

    Hi Linuxfreak...
Seems to be that you had the same problem like me...
Actualy I'm not able to see anything in the screen... Like you, I think is something related with the Bios and I'm trying to figure it out how to fix it...
To disassemble it, first you have to take off all the screws... You already did it... Cool, remove the battery, when all the screws are removed, go to the keyboard, and remove the black panel, where the start buttom is located.
Then, you will be able to take off the keyboard and to complete the whole operation...
Please, sorry for my bad english... I'm from Argentina, and I got the same issue. If you can find some solution to your problem, let me know how to proceed with my MX3414...

    Hello Linuxfreak
I have sufered the same issue like you...
I couldn't find any solution to this problem yet... Since August I'm looking for some answer to this...
The laptop starts but nothing works...
Is not a problem related to the Battery, not to the hard disk too...
I think is something related with the Bios...
If you could find some way to fix it, please, let me know
    Thank you again!

Hi. This is my first post.
I have the same problem, with the same computer.
this is an old thread and no ones posted a fix so I was wondering if anyone
    has solved this.
I turn the computer on and nothing.... other then cdrom drive works and the fan turns on. I cant even get into safe mode. No screen! just black.
If anybody knows anything that would be awesome! as Im using a really old HP right now thats slow as..... Its odd, it worked fine the day before, and I didnt tinker with anything, just read an ebook on acrobat.
Thanks in advance to whoever responds with anything.
This has been a royal pain!

    Any luck with this?
I have flashed my bios and now the screen is blank.
    Flash was successful
Anyone able to reset cmos in order to see if it clears the bios up?
Anyone know how to create a bios recovery for this notebook?

I just ran into the same problem with my mx3414 today. It was working as of 3AM, but when I turned it on later today I was faced with a blank screen and a non-booting machine. I thought I would bump the thread and if I find anything I'll post it here.

I Had the same problem as above and sent computer in for repair on warranty.
You just made me curious about what was wrong with it(they didn't send a sheet saying what was wrong with it) So I called the Gateway Tech Support and asked them if they had it on record what they had fixed on mine....The tech guy said he couldn't find nothing on record and said he thought it was the HD that went out(he guessed) which does me no good.....
I asked him if it was a common problem and he said he didn't know......I asked him if he fixes laptops, he said no.
So.......I don't Know what it would be for sure....My warranty ends October 13th
and I'll have to renew if I want it...If anyone finds more on this I would be damn excited to know before I have to renew warranty...I may do that anyhow but still it would be nice to know just what the problem was. Sad to see this problem popping up for others on the MX 3414...I really like the little guy.

    On the Side:
Anybody heard anything of a hinge problem on these MX3414's I head gateway had a hinge problem at one time or another.

I was able to check my hard drive with a laptop hd to IDE adapter and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it. I just sent it out for warranty service, so if I find out what was wrong I'll post it here.

I'm having the same problem as you guys. The laptop won't post and I'm not getting a bios. I think its a defect in the model. I think the only way is to send the machine back to gateway. Otherwise, I tried to take apart the machine but there are two screws that cannot be taken out unless the screen is off. This is a difficult task. Without doing this, there is really no way to see the bios. If you are having this problem then, if you can, SEND IT BACK!!!!

Gateway M360 series 6018GZ display black seems dead BUT was inverter board for the display back lighting CCFL. Plug a regular display into the video plug on the laptop and fire it up. If everything works except the display it may be that simple. Mine cost $89US $63 to ship it Fedex but it works. Always try this BEFOUR disassembling or replaceing HDD. Laptop batterys and power supplys can also cause many laptop problems. Hope that helps.
