what is the best parts i can put in my 7809u that would still be compatible?
I mean processor wise and can i change the screen from 1440 x 900 to a 1920 by 1080. Can i upgrade the ram from 4 gigabytes?
One last question can i change the graphics card?

Basically i want to see if i can gut this thing and rebuild it?

I have a 7805u which I believe is very similar to the 7809.

I put in 8GB of Crucial DDR3 1066MHz RAM, put in 2x Seagate Momentus XT 500GB hard drives in a Raid 0, and swapped out the Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26 GHz CPU for a Core 2 Extreme X9100 3.06 GHz CPU.

That's about the extent of what's possible. You can swap out the optical drive, but I left mine as is. I think theres a few folks that have swapped out their optical drives for slot load Blu-Ray drives. If you don't need Blu-Ray, then I wouldn't mess with changing it.

Yes, you can change out the screen for the 1920x1200 screen. And no, the GPU is not changable. It's soldered directly to the motherboard.

I changed my thermal compound from whatever the stock crap is to IC Diamond as well... I made so many wholesale changes though that the only thing I can compare before and after is the GPU, which is running cooler without a doubt.

The change that made the biggest difference IMO were the hard drive and CPU. CPU was no doubt a bigger performance increase.

So if you were going to take it one step at a time, I'd say that's a good starting spot is the CPU. Then I'd look at the hard drive and the RAM. I didn't notice a huge difference between 4GB and 8GB of RAM... But it was an $80 upgrade... One of those "Because I can" upgrades...

Do you know where can i find a the 1920 by 1200 screen?
For some reason the only one i could find is not compatible with the 1440 x 900 screen according to the seller?

If that's the same one I saw on ebay, then I don't know what that guy is talking about.

I assume the 78xx series can all use the same LCD, you may want to verify that with some of the others.

If they can, there are several P7805U WUXGA 1920x1200 screens up.

There is no way i could put a Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX9300
(12M Cache, 2.53 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) in the laptop is there?
I notice they use the same socket or is there a thing in the bios that is preventing it from working?

Nevermind i just saw a post earlier in the forum that said it won't work :(

The only real way to upgrade the GPU is to get a P79xx main board. This is a gamble though. A few have ahd success and at least one failure here. In the end you have a 260m by doing so.

Also you then can do a quad core but unless you are using something that specifically uses the 4 cores stay with a x9100................
