Hi, I own a p7805u which i bought in december 2008, over the past year, I've noticed that my laptop can no longer run COD4 on max settings (1920 x 1200) *i have one of the mismarked high definition screen ones* as well as other games. I just ran the windows vista performance estimator and got a 5.8 for gaming performance. I think its the first time I've gotten a 5.8 for gaming performance.

Can anyone help me out? Is this normal for year old laptops? Can Gateway help me out in any way?
Ive tried to keep my laptop in good condition, It still has about 3 hours of battery life on balanced (degradation of about 30 minutes). I'm really disheartened by this drop in performance for my graphics card.

Out of the box, I got 5.9 on both graphic WEI numbers.

    Are you doing the usual:

    Defragging the HD?

    Run anti-virus/anti-malware scans?

Removing unnecessary programs running in background?

Have you changed any programs that run in background such as your anti-virus or anti-spyware program?

Other than fragmented files and possible bad blocks on an HD that slows down access, hardware doesn't simply "slow down" as it gets older.

There are a few possibilities. I think the number one reason for the performance degradation is heat. You might have noticed that your laptop is turning the fan on more frequently and louder than usual. It is a gradual change so you might have not noticed it.

    How to diagnose the problem:

Download SpeedFan to check your laptop's temperatures and post a screenshot of them.

    To solve the problem:

Make sure your laptop is resting on a surface that dissipates heat well. I would invest in a can of air to blow out the dust on the vents (bottom of the laptop).

Might wana start by updating the video drivers. go to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ and check out DOX's modded drivers in their forums. also might wanna look into undervolting and overclocking as well as the procedure to driver installation. Just use the search feature and u'll be set =) goodluck and update me on ur status =)
