    Hey all,

I have a 7811fx which has been reinstalled to remove the bloatware and I cant get the e-sata port to work.

I have installed all the drivers from gateway inc. chipset driver and the intel matrix storage driver but it doesnt work.

I have tried 2 different e-sata drivers and both drivers work on my desktop via e-sata. It also works via usb on the 7811fx.

    Any ideas?

Is this one of those E-SATA/USB combo ports? Is there only one way that the SATA cable can plug in on those combo ports?

Try updating your eSATA controller drivers - what controller is in the 7811?

    Hi,

still no luck, have no idea if the e-sata port worked before the reinstall as the first thing i did was reinstall a clean version. Short of reinstalling using hte gateway disks (which i dont want to do) does anyone else have any ideas?

I dont have any ideas but I have the same problem, I have had to resort to using the Firewire port for my external drive which is very dissapointing because the reason i bought the HDD was for the eSATA.

    Hi,

The gateway tech just suggested that i reinstall the chipset driver then the intel matrix storage driver and see if that fixes the issue.

LordOPies, did you also reinstall the OS or are you using the pre installed version?

    thanks

Have you got any unknown devices with the yellow question mark in device manager?

Ok tried the new drivers and the new intel matrix storage drivers and the intel matrix storage manager finds the drive but it never shows up in in my computer.

I reboot and the pc won't post with the e-sata drive and just sticks.

    Any ideas?

Have you configured the drive in Disk Management (right click Computer - Manage)?

Ok, i think the laptop is just not compatable with the e-sata boxes i have, i managed to connect the drive its self without the box via e-sata and it worked until i disconnected it then it didnt reconnect so I am also suspecting a wiring issue.

    Time to buy next cables.

I had an issue where my e-sata drive wouldn't work. I found out that the cable I wasn't plugging in all the way. I cut the plastic off the cable and it worked.

That Could be it, it would explain why one of my cables never shows the disk at all... Will experiment tonight, the gateway tech was trying to suggest that i used USB instead of fixing the e-sata issue which frustrated me.

Will report back if i find a solution.
