After reinstalling driver after driver after driver, I almost gave up. I read somewhere that the problem my be the port on my laptop, but it felt fine...everything seemed to fit. Well a slight modification to the plug on one end made it all work. I simply trimmed a little of the plastic/rubber from one end of the cable. The port on my 7805 is seated a bit deep and wouldnt make a good connection. Pic for reference!
