    Maybe an assist...

Original 320GB died, so I popped in a Hitachi 500GB/7200RPM drive...

Loaded legal copy of Win7 Pro, searched threads for driver info...

Installed the 64Bit Chicony camera driver...
the modded IDT audio driver mentioned...
And got a video driver from Laptopvideo2go.com...

I figure it's never too good to be bleeding edge, so I got the WIn7/64 driver 259.39, released 8/12/2010.

Laptop has been in a habit of freezing randomly, with GOOFY looking display resulting. For example, I was at the desktop, inserted an SD card, and LightRoom was opening, and it just froze. Imaging how the anmation increases the size as it opens, and pausing it 80% of the way through. Also, the whole display was like if the backlight was off (dark) but it WAS on, and had a nasty reddish-hue.

uninstalled that version, and installed 259.47, and similar. I clicked on IE icon, and as it was opening, laptop froze, with a darkened screen.

    Any ideas?
    Anything else I should've installed?
nothing in hardware properties has an exclamation or anything...

Laptop ran PERFECTLY fine under vista x64, also with an L2V.com driver, albeit MUCH older, until the HDD died.

    Any suggestions?

Try to use the Nvidia driver from their site: ver 258.96, anything higher than that you may have problems. My P-7805U FX is running the new beta drivers with no problems, go figure, it does have a 9800, instead of the 8800 though.

Soon after I posted, I went to check if they had OEM drivers, so I uninstalled the .47, and installed that. Been OK the past hour, including a couple Lightroom sessions...

We'll see - thanks for the pointer.
