Hey guys, this is my first laptop that has a full-sized keyboard. It's funny because I actually was stumped as to why the trackpad was off-centered. It took me a while to figure out it's because of the full-sized keyboard, and that it is actually centered with the qwerty setup.

So how do you find yourself positioning uh, yourself when you type on the keyboard? Are you centered with the screen, therefore your arms are directed to the left a bit? OR are you centered with the keys so that the screen is directed to the right?

I find myself centered with the keys. I'm assuming this would be the "recommended" way of working with a laptop like this.

I'm centered with the screen and there hasn't been any problems with it. This is my first laptop but I've used a lot of different ones before. I don't mind the full size keyboard with off centered trackpad. I played Dota without a mouse once at a boba shop and I was still owning so I don't mind =P

I generally sit center-screen and lean to the left just a tad when typing. While I commend the 17" laptop manufcturers for providing a fullsized keyboard, I think they missed the boat on this one. Why because it isn't a modern fullsized keyboard. It's a *******ized version of the original IBM PC keyboard with small arrow keys wedged into inconvenient places. I would much rather they skipped the numeric keypad and provided fullsized document navigation keys. I do much more document editing than I do numeric input. Any other opinions?

I agree with that. To me the numeric keys aren't that important. I don't think I'd tie the folks who buy this laptop in with 'number crunchers'. I find the right shift key to be annoying... too small and I often hit the arrows instead.

I'd go so far as to say that if Gateway, in their next iteration of 17" laptop had a full-sized keyboard with the arrow keys and Ins/Home/Up - Del/End/Dn keys in place of the numeric keypad, and that keyboard could be used as a replacement for the keyboard in the 7811, I'd pay up to $100 for one (Yes, it is THAT important to me).

meh, I have learned to just use my regular keyboard, unless I'm actually using the laptop while in transit otherwise I use my keyboard and full size mouse.

i sit centered with the screen, and find it feels fine. i don't have any problem with the keyboard, i've gotten used to where all the keys are and it's just like using any other keyboard now.
