ok guys, im a little concerned with my laptop, at why the gaming performance isnt that great.

Its the gateway p6860 fx, i upped the processor to the t8300, has the 320gb wd scorpio 7200rpm, 8800m gts 512mb (with the latest nvidia drivers)

the games i have tried so far.

    *halo 2
    *crysis
    *need for speed undercover
    *halo 1
    *fear
    *cod4
    *gta 4

all of the requirements are met and in some cases like halo 1 , they are a mile over the line.

But in every game i play it shudders, even with some settings lower. When i say shudder i mean like a lag, with lines as if its moving to fast, they are like blocky. In every game, if the game is windowed it happens alot lot less.

in using windows 7, so i think this could be the problem maybe. I have the latest drivers, and the pc does everything else fine. My temps are fine when gaming the cpu is about 35- 40 and the gpu 60-70.

so im confussed at why it performs sluggishly with games.

i got the game booster software and clicked the switch to gaming mode, it disables things and puts windows into basic mode and stuff, which helps a little but it still lags.

if anyone can help me it would be much apreciated

I would continue to go through drivers, also try running the games in compatibility mode for XP SP3, if it cannot be fixed then yes, Windows 7 is most likely the problem.

I agree. I use mine every other month at LAN parties and play CoD4, FEAR and UT2004 and they all run nicely. I can't wait for the next LAN party to see how much of a difference my CPU upgrade made! :D

    Good luck troubleshooting your issue.

Hmmm.... Well, I have a gateway 7811 fx and am running windows 7. All of my games run fine (cod4, l4d, css). I do know where you got your drivers but if you haven't done this I would suggest using driver sweeper to wipe your current drivers and then install the (geforce, 8m series, windows 7 64 bit) drivers on the nvidia website.

    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

That is what I did and it worked fine.

However, games like gta4 and crysis will have some issues and probably will not be able to run completely smooth on your laptop.

Other than that I do not know what the problem is. Maybe a direct x issue?

Did you ever try using the Vista that came preinstalled before upgrading? If so, how was the performance? That should answer if it's Win7 causing the slowdown or not...

Take out the battery you are running into the power managment issues when you are plugged in the wall but still have the battery plugged in.

My 6860 did the same thing until I realized it was battery issues even with it set to high performance on the battery.
