can I upgrade my gateway MT3705 laptop which is now a Pentium core duo t2060 to a core duo or core 2 duo? keeping in mind the radeon xpress 200m chipset has its limitations, can that chipset run core duo or core 2 duo, say a T2300 for example? ATI website says it supports pentium m, celeron and pentium 4 but does not mention core duo. I did notice in some threads that people had T2250 on their MT3705's.

Anyone try to upgrade to these processors yet?

On my MT3705 laptop, CPU-z identifies the processor as a Core Duo though I'm skeptical as to if it actually is or not. I have the Radeon Xpress 200m chip too FYI.

I've actually been wondering the same thing as far as upgrading since so far I'm pretty disappointed the T2060's performance. So far the only worries I have is the FBS and the ATI chip. The processor should fit as it's the same socket though. I work a an electronic retailer so I think I might just borrow a Core Duo from another laptop to see if it will work since I haven't found anyone with a definitive answer. Also I could see if my processor is actually a T2250 or the T2060.

If the processor upgrade is available I definitely don't think u should sell ur notebook though since 1. I've not seen many notebooks with both a decent graphics chip and an advanced intel processor and 2. It'll be much cheaper than a new notebook with similar specs.

I don't know why Gateway doesn't sell these with decent specs. It's a great laptop design; they just need to put a better cpu and faster hard drive in it.

A faster CPU will not be designated as MT3705. Its compact, a faster cpu may have cooling problems in the endurance test. FSB 667MHz CPUs should run on this laptop and the fastest CPU you can get for this laptop is prolly the T7600 (don't go for T7300, T7500, they are 800Mhz FSB and will run slower inside the MT3705 if fitted OK!).

I ended up going with the T2350 processor and successfully installed it on the MT3705. Everything has worked flawlessly so far. Based on my research from a while ago I believe any T2X50 processor will work since it has all the same power and bus speed specifications as the OEM processor. I'm not sure if a processor can slow its bus speed in the similar manner as RAM chips can so I'm not sure if T2X00 series processor will work since they run at 667MHz. I don't think a Core 2 Duo processor will not work though even though the 5200 has the same bus speed and socket, it is a 64 bit processor vs the 32 bit Core Duo.
