I recently sent in my p-7811 fx notebook in for an lcd replacement job because the original 1920 by 1200 display seemed grainy- for instance the whites as compared to my dv5t seemed gray and the pixel grid seemed grainy (do people run into similar problems with their fx's?) After three weeks once the bestbuy return period expired...........duh...i decided to send it in! So almost three weeks later I got it back and they downgraded the display to 1440 by 900....and they never connected the webcam back. Of course scuffs and some scratches were a reality of this repair. I tried calling their elevated problem number but I've been put on hold for like an hour each time...unfortunately i don't have the min.'s on my cell to keep calling them. I wrote them an email....and I'm still waiting for a reply. However, my main concern is how is the quality of the high res screen for most fx owner's? To me it seems grainy (for a lack of better words) and it seems less ultrabright than the regular 1440 by 900 display.

The screen on my 7811 is nice, not the best I've ever had, but still really nice. I don't have any issues with grainyness, maybe a little softer in color.

The screen is better than the Sager 5793 i had but not as bright or crisp as the HP before the Sager both Santa rosa platforms.

I would deffinatly call then/email them and threaten to sue... they cant just steal your screens and put in a different one. Thats pretty much just illegal, i would start asking nicely for them to replace the screen, but if they dont then i would go instantly into the threaten them with legal action -
I composed a nice letter to the BBB but sent it to Gateway and told them if I didn't have a working *new* computer within 10 working days I would send the same letter to the BBB. I ended up getting a newer upgraded model.
I use to work for an extended warranty company in process management. I can tell you the threat of legal action isn't taken seriously unless it comes from an attorney's office. Everyone threatens legal action off the top of their head, and the company's people know that. On a side note, once I left the company they ended up getting the Gateway contract so if it'd happened a bit later I could have just walked over to the cubicle of the guy who authorized replacements and done if face to face.
Taking the time to compose an actual letter (not e-mail) and being polite, professional, patient, and persistent usually wins the day. Except with DirecTV. They are evil and do not respond to BBB, Attorney General, or the Wrath of Angered Spouse. -

My family keeps a partnership on retainer, so i threaten to sue through them. It makes it less of a head ache for me.
But i conceed your points. (especially the one about directTV)

Grrr.. DirecTV. Thieves.
Gway tho, call and tell them the issue. There is an escalated issues phone number - And this is a common occurrence, so you won't be the first they've heard from. 1-877-285-6043 7AM to 7PM M-F Central Time. Call and tell them the issue. They'll resolve it almost immediately.
