Hi, I bought my gateway fx p-7805u about 2 years ago.. Never had a problem until the last couple of months.. I had got a problem a few months back as my laptop would not let me past the log in screen. A click and it was frozen. so i reformatted and then put windows 7 ultimate. Since then i have heating issues. A lot of heating issues. Now my laptop is sitting idle, just surfing the net and gets super hot randomly. I could literally cook some eggs. What should i do? im not even gaming. Sometimes it works fine but these random moments where it will get super hot are annoying. Is it time ?

Have you blown the vent out with compressed air? This would be your first step...

    Dust + Vents + Fans = Overheating

    Agreed!

I would strongly recommend you take it apart to do a thorough cleaning instead of just blowing compressed air thru the vents. At one point I accumulated a sizable amount of dust on the GPU side and after blowing it some of that dirt got inside the cooling fan and it stopped running, at the end I had to buy a new one to replace it. All because I was too lazy to do some quick work :/

There is a guide on how to take apart these laptops somewhere around here... Google is your friend!

Applying new thermal paste would not be a bad idea after 2 years usage :)

    cheers ...

If your like me and around a garage with an air compressor and blow gun, use that baby, works like a charm!

As for the thermal paste I would say thats a good idea. I personally have not changed mine, I was cheap and the first time I took it apart I used some of the GPU'S thermal pad, worked like a charm though.
