I have a Gateway M675 Laptop. I know they are not supported by Gateway any longer. They are supported by MPC. I have gotten no help from them at all. My problem is: I bought new Memory for it. The spec's say it can support up to 2GB. It originally came with 2 sticks of 512MB for a total of 1GB. I of course bought 2 sticks of 1 GB. When I use both sticks of the new Memory, the Laptop try's to boot up but never makes it. With 1 stick of the new memory it boots up fine and works great. I discovered that if I turn off the Wireless Transmitter, it will boot up and work fine with 2 sticks of the new Memory, but I don't have WEB Access with the built in Wireless option.

Is there anyone who has experienced this and may know what can correct this issue? I have thought maybe a BIOS update would help. I am running with a BIOS of 51.05.00. I also am running Vista Home Premium. Help!!!!!

Will the wireless turn on and work after it is booted?

No, it will not turn on, it just occasionally does a quick flash but there is no WEB access.

I did some more checking. It will start a Bootup with both 1 GB sticks installed, but it won't get past the first stage. The Wireless Transmitter switch just flashes at a low intensity. When I push the switch to turn it off, the Laptop finishes it's Bootup. After it's finished, it acts real slow and sluggish. I was on the Intel site and checked for any updates. It did update my Chip Drivers but it did not make a difference. I just don't understand this issue. I have updated the RAM on a number of Laptops and Desktops with no problems.

Did you test each ram separately to make sure they are both working?

Yes, that's one of the first things I did. I tested both new sticks in both slots. They both worked perfectly in both slots as long as I had only one of them installed. The system worked fine originally with the original installation of 2 ea 512 MB sticks.

I tried putting one of the original 512 MB sticks in with the one 1 GB stick also installed. The same thing happens, as with both 1 GB sticks installed. It will not complete Bootup until the Wireless Transmitter is manually turned off. But when it completes Bootup, it acts normal but if the Transmitter is manually turned on, it acts abnormally sluggish and it hardly completes an action.

In the instance where there are more than one 1 GB stick installed the Wireless Transmitter never turns on when the button is pushed but the system knows when that happens and goes crazy!

I just spent some time updating my BIOS to Gateways latest. That didn't do a bit of good. Still have the exact same error. It is now BIOS Version 51.03.01.

Are there any bios settings for recognizing amount of ram?

Not that I have noticed. I have looked for that specifically.

Doesn't anyone have any other comments about this issue? Anyone experience this before? I have run it in several scenarios to no avail. The Internal Wireless will not function properly with more that 1 GB of RAM!

As I mentioned earlier the Gateway Specifications on this Laptop say it has a maximum of 2 GB of RAM.
