    Hi guys

I have a gateway (p7805u fx) power adaptor 19v and 6.3A... the thing is enormous! I am wanting to replace it with a smaller adaptor:

    GATEWAY/HP 19V 4.74A

    will this work?

Also, we don't sell much Gateways here in NZ and getting parts is difficult. I noticed that the Gateway NZ website, throws me to a ACER distributor for parts... does this mean they are compatible?

I am after a power adaptor and battery for my laptop... could anyone recommend the best solution for me considering that I can't really get my hands on US stuff without paying heaps on shipping.

I wouldnt use that adapter. Its too small for the FX.

The 7805 might run low amps but i know the 68xx runs are near max amps at full load (6.1 if i remember correctly) So replacing it with something that low will end up causing problems i would think

The stock addapter is stressed enough, going small is anything but a good idea............
