I don't think you can buy spare parts for the P-6831/6860 yet. I've been checking on the internet myself for certain spare parts and see none available yet. I think it's because the model(s) are so new to the market.
My screen bezel has wear marks on a few spots around the edge near the top of the screen somewhat near the latches. I'm very anal about my electronics and can't figure out how they are getting there... I looks like it was rubbed by something abrasive. I still use the "screen protector" that was covering the screen when I first purchased the laptop when I stow it in my backpack. I hope that isn't what's causing it. I'll keep checking around the bezel just in case when I unpack it.
I think the screen bezel is rather prone to scratches. I would check ebay. Look for this company called Adeal.com. They stock a lot of Gateway parts. The P-6000 series (6301, 6825, there are more similar models though...) use some of the same parts as a 6831/6860 such as the harddrive cover/memory cover, etc... I bought a spare hardrive cover (from a 6825 model) to use on my 6831. They are the same as far as the lower portion except for some cosmetic design differences on the upper portion.
If you can find out anything, please let me know. As I am very interested too. The only other option is buying a non-functioning P-6831fx model and using it for spare parts. But, that could be costly.
It could just be a design flaw in the P-6831fx. Maybe the plastic used around the bezel is a slightly lower grade than the rest of plastic used to manufacture this laptop?
Anyone else experiencing a similar problem? -
i emailed a guy earlier who sells or can get spare parts for our machine atleast he was pretty sure he can . if i get any positive info on getting another bezel from him i will post it here for you and others to see i may just order 2 of them,
not really sure though if theres anything we can do other than maybe take it to someone who can shoot a layer of clear coat over it to protect it . mines not even a week old and already has scratches on it , and worse is im afraid to wipe it off cause its just going to get more hehe. -
Well, based on shiny iPods of past, I knew we were in for a rough ride with these notebooks. I don't baby these things so prefer, imho, a pebble grain finish so that finger prints and small scratches don't stand out.
I would like to replace the stupid copper colored # keys or find white decals for low light gaming.
Be very careful of the screens, very fragile if you twist them too far, no metal sub frames in this notebook; so close from the middle. I watched a guy crack the screen at BB trying to get his lid to open on a 6831! This was in front of a geek squad girl but was replaced all the same. -
I would love to find replacement decals for the # keys also, did Gateway really think that out? Dark colored number keys for gamers???

there lower end models that are 17inch have the white number keys and the keyboard itself is matte instead of glossy i saw one on display at microcenter a couple weeks back im sure there must be a way to order the KB itself.

i don't have a problem with the number keys when i game. i usually don't have to look down at the key, i can just reach for it. and even when i have to hit a key and its dark i can still see it

My problem is intween gaming, when I surf the net and stuff.

Thanks Quadzila regarding finding a replacement bezel. I had my last notebook for four years (...sold it a few months back...) and plan on using this one for a number of years. I'm very anal and like my electronic products to stay as pristine as possible for as long as possible.
I don't abuse my electronics in any fashion.
I bought one of these (Belkin n52te Tournament Edition SpeedPad) which makes gaming much more comfortable and saves some wear and tear on my keyboard. Also, the Xbox 360 controller works beautifully playing GRID on the P-6831fx.
The P-6831fx isn't my main gaming rig. But it was very nice to transfer my Assassin's Creed savegames and continue playing at my Mom's house while visiting.Attached Files:

i finally got a replacement bezel from ebay yesterday from a company called A-deal it was from a 6825 same chassis and everything as ours but sadly it was in worse condition then the one i took off there and the thing cost me 75 bucks
im not going to even bother sending it back im just going to look into getting my spare painted black cause i think no matter what these things are prone to scratches no matter how well you take care of it .

I'm sorry to hear the replacement bezel was in such bad shape. If it was rated in "Grade A" condition, I would call and let them know it wasn't in such condition. If they don't offer you a full refund, then a partial refund should be offered.
I bought a spare harddrive cover from a 6825 (probably one of the same ones your bezel came from) and it was brand new looking.
I guess maybe the last best option is to buy a brand new bezel when they become available to purchase from stores that carry brand new oem parts for our Gateway model(s).
The scuff marks on my bezel aren't causing me any grief, but I suspect they were already there when I purchased the P-6831FX brand new. (You only really notice them at a certain angle.) I don't like it, but I can live with it for the time being.
gateway spare parts ?
