I am having trouble using my gateway with my phillips 42pfl7782d. It will not hold the picture and goes blank. while my computer is connected the screen remains black. is there a compatibility problem with the ATI Radeon X1270 or upgrades for the ATI that I should download.

I have the same problem. I have a Philips 47" 1080p LCD flat HDTV model # 47PFL7422D/37B and a new Gateway P-173XL FX Notebook.

I read the directions on the Gateway website located here, but no luck. I was able to get the Philips LCD Display to work with HDMI, but my Gateway screen is always black. When I disconnect the hdmi cable I have to turn off my laptop to use it again.

I bought a Dell for one of my employees and his laptop works perfectly with the same LCD display. He can connect the hdmi cable without having to do anything to get the video signal. His laptop is 32bit and my Gateway is 64bit. I'm wondering if this has to do with the problem.

If anyone knows how to get my new Gateway to have both displays visible with a signal at the same time (like you do with a projector) - I'm all ears.

have you gone into the personalization options and then to desktop settings (right click on the desktop) you should see an option in there to have monitor 1 be your laptop display, and monitor 2 to be your tv. you would want to extend the desktop to the 2nd monitor, otherwise it will just clone the laptop display.
