I am running a wi fi network in my office and my 2 year old compaq presario 2500 gets excellent reception. My gateway 275e tablet (pentium m) gets poor reception and drops connection . Is this a gateway problem, a pentium m problem, or other? Would it help to buy another wireless card for the gateway? The distance involved is about 30 ft thru 2 sheetrock walls.

Wow, that is bad reception @ 30 ft. Interesting... Don't suppose you have access to another laptop or PDA w/wifi so you can attempt to duplicate the results? Sheet rock shouldn't take too much oomph out of the signal. The Compaq Presario, is that connected wirelessly? About how far (and how many layers of sheetrock) is it from the router?

Afterthought: Are you around any microwave ovens? SOme (like mine @ home) will interfere with the signal. My older microwave at home causes the signal to repeatedly drop and reconnect when on. Surprisingly, the newer microwaves at my office location give me no problems whatsoever.

    John,

You may want to check with Gateway to see if they have any reported issues of bad connection problems with the WiFi or if they have new drivers. The reason why I'm suggesting this is because the HP NX7000 I had seemed to exibit this same problem, constant disconnects. It was found that the drivers the HP had required a specific revision/version when used with the XP updates. I just went on their site and downloaded the lastest and it all worked out.

Will you drag this conversation over to our Tablet site, www.bargaintabletpc.com? The editor in chief there has experience, negative though, with the Gateways.
