    Hi,
I was wondering whether anyone would like to comment on dell vs gateway build quality. I'm considering dell vostro 1700 (or inspiron 1720) and gateway nx860xl (or what's going to come out next, i really would like a santa rosa notebook). Any comments would be very welcome.

I think both will be just arevage in terms of biuld quality, my recommendation is go to a store and check them personally, I've heard that vostros are quite bulky but since they are business line laptops should be durable.

I just gave my Gateway away and bought my 5th Dell. Gateway has great customer support, perhaps that is due to the amount of time they will spend with you. I am in an MBA program and as part of the tuition costs we were issued M-285 computers. Of the 53 in the class about 25% of them have had major issues, motherboard issues, hardrive failures and screen failures. We are less than two years into the program and about 30% of the class have abandonded the gateways and gone to other brands.

I got a Gateway 2 months ago and no problem with it so far.

    BTW

CompUsa is going out of business on February 2008, they are going to start selling everything starting with a 5% off, and lower from then on as they get closer to the closing date. Take advantage of the good price to get some kool stuff at good price.
