a few weeks after i got ma laptop up till now i have been getting the blue screen of death on my computer - this particular screen was with regards to memory dump and it happens everytime after being on a lan connection for about half hour or more.

i was thinking that i could simply format the harddrive and install XP instead of vista and this would fix the problem seeing as how a friend of mine has XP in this particular computer and it doesn't experience the same problems

can someone advise me on this particular issue? was the above solution more recommended or is there something more technical needed to be done?

    thanks in advance

If it is no longer bluescreening after you reformatted it, then you solved it - it was a software caused issue. Not necessarily Vista itself, just something that was installed/driver conflicts/etc.

If it still is doing it, it's caused by hardware. Likely a bad hard drive or memory, you can try running the diagnostic test provided by your HDD manufacturer, and try running memtest86, or it could also be caused by overheating.

hmm - i have been having some problems with my drivers now that u mention it.. but not sure how all of that has to do with memory dump. but in the event that it is some sort of driver conflict can i simply re-install the drivers and it is fixed?

i think i will try the latter suggestions. but i seriously doubt that it is overheating because usually it would just restart if it was.. and i don't think that being online for 30 mins could cause the temp to go past 85 degs.

none the less, thanks for the advise .. will look into it

Have you reformatted your computer yet? I would check device manager to see if all devices are installed, run a driver cleaner program, update my video and chipset drivers, and run a memtest. If the BSOD is up long enough, try to get the error code - this can tell you a lot about your problem.

havent re-formatted as yet primarily cuz i have lots of valuable stuff on it and have no backup storage. so i would have to get a second harddrive in order to back up all my stuff so that i can format ma harddrive

How long does the BSOD stay up? Do you know how to recreate it (does it happen when you do something specific, like opening a game, or a program, or when you do something specific in a program, etc, or does it happen randomly?

Sorry for hijacking your thread but mine is doing the exact same thing. It seems to be related to my graphics drivers and occurs every time I open nTune. Did a clean install and it worked again until using laptopvideo2go's drivers again....

I got one random BSOD when in the middle of a game but apart from that the only time it occurs is when I open nTune. I've used driver cleaners and everything and tried reinstalling both nTune and my drivers. nTune seems to work fine one time after the reinstall but then gives BSOD on any further attempts to open nTune.

Think I found the answer to my problem. Just thought I'd post it here in case any one else is having the same issue. See this link http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=204425&page=158. Check stewiegriffin's comment on installing manufacturer specific .inf files for driver updates from laptopvideo2go.

I'll find out if this works when I get home from work later tonight!

Run memtest to check your memory modules.

Do you get bsod also when you just let it idle?

I have the same problem too after playing Far Cry or Painkiller or medal of honor. it occurs randomly sometime my p-6831fx will pause for moment while I play the game I can hear the music but I can't do anything for a 15 to 20 sec pause and the game resume. At other times I get the a memory dump where the memory start to count down until the laptop restart.

ok here's what's happening - i checked my memory and harddrive and nothing is wrong with them but the problem still persists. so i performed a windows problem & solution report and it said that the network adapter was the source of the problem. so i updated it but haven't checked yet to see if this fixes my problem. will report back

    Problem solved..
