Its according to your room temp...but mine idles at about 40-44. My rooms only 75 deg F (about 24deg C if i'm doing the conversion correctly)

just place a semi thick book under your battery and make sure it doesn't block any of the ventilation slots.

Non air-conditioned area with room temp of 70-84: I get 60-65c GPU tops after 30 minutes of gaming.
Air-conditioned room: 55c max after 30 minutes of gaming

My numbers could be slightly higher by 3 degrees celsius or so in actuality, as it takes me 10 seconds to exit the game and open up Hardware Monitor.

just take a game that can be played in window mode. and set the res at like 800x600. then run hwmonitor/gpuz/cpuz right on the side and gage how your system reacts.

U also have the option of using nTune to log into a text file as you game for long periods. Very handy if you like to OC and want to run game environment as close to real world. I do not notice any performance hits during logging which IMHO is a huge plus.

Except for a few games my WUXGA would slam my 7900gs running native, I had to run Crysis in 1280x800 or I'd get a slide show at times. My eyeballs don't work like they once did so enjoy the 1400x900 for humongous text ;)

Are you running stuff like Crysis/Witcher/Stalker in native with your WUXGA/8800GS? If so its got to be pretty in high rez!

well not sure how you want to play that game, but me... i played it in dx10 mode at 1920x1200 all medium and it ran perfect. running it now at 2.4ghz and it's getting 25 to 35 frames. at 3.0 it's getting 25 to 40 frames and at dx9 up to about 55. depends on whats going on.. yep, played staler on all high. no problems same with mass effect, but haven't played witcher. i hear ya on the text..sometimes i will drop down to about 1600x1200 for a certain page or if im tired. then i will go as low as 1440x1050.

why would you need logging if you can run cpuid hwmonitor in the background and get the max temp value ? gpuz too can be configured to continue refreshing in the background so you can just alt tab anytime to check if your gpu downclocks, i've tried rivatuner for logging everything, but the gpu clock reading are wrong and i was too lazy finding the right offset. unistalled.
the new system monitor that came with that new nvidia system tools(ntune 6.02) seems over bloated (too fancy gui unnecessary sounds etc), i guess its hwmonitor cpuz and gpuz for me.

Wow... I have a crazy feeling I'm covering up the vents, because my idle is around 49C, but load is up to 90C!
