2600 is not very good the 8600 is better
get the 8800gts its great -
i bought mine 3 days ago for 800 i dont know if its worth the extra 600 dollars for the 1 gb more memory, 17 inch screen and the 8800 gts
-
Im downloading 3dmark vantage right now so i will post the scores
-
i just got this the other day as well, i can report that it runs crysis on low setting out of the box. I am pretty sure once i upgrade the processor it will run it well on medium at 1280-800
-
Vantage wont work. It requires a minimum of 1280x1024 resolution. I guess you could fool it, but theres really no point.
-
the card will work fine unless you are looking to play the newest games at the highest settings.
-
Its a waste of money (my opinion), go return it and trade it in for the 6860
-
nah i like it alot $600 more for 2 inches of screen 1gb of memory and the nvida graphics? still has the same processor i can upgrade to the t9300, add the 1gb of memory put a 7200 hdd in and a blueray drive for $600 and i just ran 3dmark06 and got a 4129 with only the gpu overclocked to 600/700mhz

Yea. The 6850 is a good laptop. There are a few others by Gateway with a better processor and the same vid card that come out a bit cheaper(ie-Gateway M-152XL), but the 6850 is still an awesome machine. Great 3DM score as well! Enjoy your laptop.

And Thanks Alot!
-
its a good machine, just a 6860fx for 1099 is a steal.

I had originally intended to spend around $800 for a new laptop. My then-current machine (see #2 in sig) was adequate to play WoW at high settings with 30-60fps in all but the most heavily populated areas.
After looking around in the store and getting totally confused by graphics cards (comparing ATI to nVidia at various performance levels), I turned to the forums. A week of research convinced me that the 6860 was the most flexible choice. I didn't like the size (!!!) of it, or the price ($1349 then), but the 8800GTS, RAID capability, ease of CPU upgrade-ability, combined with A2DP bluetooth and 802.11n convinced me to shell out the extra bucks.
No regrets! WoW is BEAUTIFUL!! on this machine. After the price match last week ($250 back), I have absolutely NO regrets. I've already upgraded the CPU and LCD. RAID is next... (2x 7200RPM or 1x 5400RPM...hmmm).
Just my $.02 worth, YMMV. As long as everyone is happy with their choices/purchases, then we're all good! -

The 6850 is still a good notebook, but I think you are misguided on what the extra $600 is for.
