    hi just bought a laptop(not got it yet ) its not the best but got it just to browse the net and do things when mobile its a Gateway Solo 9500 (dont laught)
    the guy i bought it off said it dosent boot up when you power on u hear bleeps then it goes off he said could be down to bad memory so what sort of memory dose it use same as a normal pc ? dose anyone know where to get the memory cheap in the uk links would be great thanx in advance

    The rams differ from those of a PC. Depending on the laptop itself, not sure what the gateway has. It could be ddr1 or ddr2 and also the number of pins vary. I'd usually recommend buying online, but in your case I'd recommend actually taking it with you to a shop and have it upgraded. Not sure where in the UK.

    it could be SDRAM pc100 or pc133 !! wow
    SDRAM is more expensive where i live than ddr rams teh lameness

    am stuck i have change the memory swaped it to diffrent slots where the memory goes still 2 bleeps when the laptop starts :(

    i think i have found the problem when i first got the laptop it switched on there were black lines going down the screen and artifacts at a guess it means a new video board is required anyone know where thay can be bought ?

    I also have a Gateway 9500, they're not bad laptops. You should use only SDRAM PC133 memory as stated in the manual.

    I believe the 9500 has a built-in video card, therefore you cannot just change the video card. You'll have to buy a new motherboard.

    I have an extra bottom half of a gateway 9500 with the motherboard that also just beeps, maybe you can use some parts to get yours working. If interested let me know.
