Hi,
Download free HDClone http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,62226/description.html?loomia_ow=t0:a41:g29:r1:c0.054264:b20036373
then put one of your 500 into the drive bay and clone your 320 to the bigger drive. When done, swap the original drive with the second 500 disk and your ready to go. Please note the clonnig will take few hours to complete, so be patient.
Cheers... -
drag and drop
haha, seriously, what are ya moving? -
Ya if your gonna RAID those two new hard drives you have to do a reformat. I was thinking the drag and drop myself.

If you're not going to RAID, then Vista Ultimate has a built in backup and restore app that will backup everything to another drive. Drag and drop wont work for OS and program files. To use the Vista backup and restore center to do this, you have to back up to a drive different than the one you are backing up.
If you are going to do RAID, and I would recommend it, I don't know if you could then transfer the backup image back to the 320 after formatting it. If you have an external drive for backup purposes, and probably everyone should, then you could do a complete backup to it and then restore after you get your array set up. -
I don't see the point of setting up a RAID in this case. He doesn't need the speed. And he doesn't need the redundancy. Just a file transfer.

connect the both the hard drives in the computer.
transfer the data from one to another by copying.
if the computers are connected to the internet than try to ping both the computers ip.
share the hard drive which have the data.
go to the start>run type \\ ip address of the computer.
you will see the shre folder .
open the folder.
copy the data and paste it in to the hard drive.
all the data will be transferred.
it will take some time to transfer the data . -

I typically don't reccomend that novices set up RAIDs. It is more complex to recover from. It takes a bit of know how. Plus he'll have to backup and format his two 500s. And it sounds like he is hard pressed to back up those two disks to an external source seeing as the 320 he owns is already full of data.
I don't think the failure rate is significant though. Just the hassle.
Then again, I could have mistaken the OP's level of know how.
This requires that the 320 HD is connected to a computer. From what I understand, the 320 was originally in the computer, but now it is stand alone.
In that case, you should buy/borrow a 2.5 inch harddrive enclosure. That will allow you to plug the 320 HD into a USB slot and it will show up as another harddrive. You can just drag and drop. -

Well when I was switching laptops I just threw the old hard drive into one of the bays of my 7805u and booted up and copied everything over. Took about an hour and thirty minutes to transfer approx. 150gb of data.
