ok i have 5.1 surround sound speakers and there is only 2 ports a headphone and a microphone jack on the p-6831fx. The speakers i own have 3 connectors one black, one green, and one orange . i never had this problem on my other laptop because it has 3 ports and my desktop.

the only reason iam doing this is because my desktop is dead.
    thanks

isnt it you don't use the ornage but you use the green in head phone and black in mic

Use Green on your headset jack, green is more than likely your front speakers, back is center, orange is rear.

I guess I should clarify, you can only use one of your jacks, the headphone, plug your green plug in, you will only have the two front speakers. I used a y adapter and have four speakers going

Skip the old 'Analog' wire route...

I got a linksys music server for $40 US off ebay, It has low-fi rca's and Hi-Fi digital coaxil....and even HIGHER-FI optical... Ya Boy!

One thing to note.....Because of a slight delay of the signal going from your Lappy to your router to the music server, It's not good for movies...

Oh well you'll get your cake but it take a 1/2 a sec to get the taste...LOL

I use it all day every day listening to streaming radio.

P.S I haven't tried it but if you still wanna use wires it'll hookup with a network cable... Not sure if this take care of the delay?

I have a THX and a dolby test disk I played with and the little ol' Linksys handles 5.1 as well as 7.1 with no problems.

open up the realtek sound drivers and go to town. Change the settings up and you should be able to get it to work without an adapter.

An adapter is not going to give you 5.1 surround sound, even if you have 6 speakers. It's just going to split the main signal into each speaker, which can only split the front left and front right to each speaker, so you will not get any surround left and surround right or sub signal. What you need, just like tuffthegamer is saying, is a sound card for you laptop. I have a very old usb one from adaptec, but I have a decent 2.1 speaker sytem from creative labs which is what I'm going to use instead.
