yes really noob question i know, but this is my first notebook...so if anyone is kind enough to tell me the following:
1)How to disable the up and down scrolling on the touch pad
    2) how to disable the left and right scrolling on the touch pad
    3) how to disable the whole freaking touch pad

Right click on touch pad icon in bottom right corner
    Left Click Pointing Device Properties
    Left Click Device Settings Tab
    Left Click Disable
Vista 32bit, there is a option to disable when you have a mouse plugged in, I can't find that with 64bit :(

Otherwise some have a quickkey to turn the whole touchpad off. If that was the case it would probably be Fn+F5 or something like that (that's the combo on mine not sure what yours would be). Hope this helps!

i got to the mouse part lithus, but i see no "Device settings". Just Buttons, Pointer, Pointer Options, Wheel, Hardware. I can make the pointer faster and stuff but i dont see how to disable.

flynnaz i cannot even find any touchpad icon or anything in the bottom right corner

shoelace im looking around for something like that (fn + something) but i dont seem to see anything of the like. im still gunna search around.

do i need to "reinstall" the touchpad or something, maybe thats why i cant do anything you guys suggested. because i did reinstall a clean copy of vista.

or i guess it could, and probably is, because i dont ha-ve an external mouse plugged in yet -_- im gunna retry your guys advice soon as i find my mouse.

Only some models have an included quickkey like I was talking about, so if you can't find it you probably don't have it. If some of those other things don't work you may try to find if your laptop came with software specifically for the touchpad and mess around with those settings a little bit...

gateway's website is freaking hard to find what you want compared to dells lol....where can i find software that came preloaded onto the computer to dl? like burning software.

i went to the M-152XL driver section and see nothing for touchpads. im gunna looka round more.

im starting to get the feeling that the support for M-152XL (like drivers and downloads and stuff) is "unfinished"...this cant be all they have on gateways website
    http://support.gateway.com/support/...wse&platform=10022&model=11892&os=10954&type=

either i have to search for drivers for parts by their individual name and hope i get the right ones, or gateway has a way to go....

im just gunna get drivers from the manufacters websites, screw gateways website...someone posted a bunch of links, im gunna use those.

anyone know how to extract drivers from the recovery partition? i think i got most of my drivers installed, and everything seems to be working fine, but i still see how things listed as "Generic" like Generic PnP Monitor. This is driving me crazy and if anyone can tell me how to extract drivers from the recovery partition i can install those drivers.

the pnp monitor will stay like that.
its the same on my machine, and i never bothered reformating it.
you should have made a drivers backup DVD before formating, it was mentioned in every post i read before getting my laptop.

    sorry couldn't help.

Everything is in your Mouse Control Panel and has been asked about several times in the past. Search is your friend..
