Guessing you mean P-7805u...and maybe you could have just looked down and there is a whole thread just to overclocking the CPU in it...edit:Nevermind that is GPU. Anyways, you can't overclock a CPU unless it is overclockable(the X Series for example)...or at least that is my knowledge, but also in the p-7805u, you can't overclock the overclockable CPUs.

Zak is correct, mostly. You can't overclock the CPU in the FX series laptops, other than the extreme processors (x9100 being the only one with a 1066fsb). The thing is the BIOS is locked from going beyond 3GHz, meaning in effect you can't overclock even the x9100.

And it would probably over heat, unless it is such a small OC. I donno but maybe like for like .3 before it would go haywire with heat :D

My CPU is at 3.0 ghz and it never overheats.

O, nice, as I said though I didn't even really know, I was just saying that, I am sure though that the laptop would be prone to lock up at like .5 OCd

The 6k FX series allows for CPU overclocking up to 3.0 GHz with an extreme CPU. The 7k series doesn't allow for it, period. Even with an x9000, you can't OC it. And no, setfsb doesn't have a PLL for it either, speculation is there's not a PLL Chip.

There has to be a clock generator of some sort, but it could be non programmable or one that no one has access to the proper information to be able to program it with, or just one no one has written a utility for yet.

Do they even still use those in computers? lol I wouldn't think they'd be accurate enough for as fast as things are clocked now

Our PLL's are locked by something called secure mode or safe mode...i cant remember which.

I was emailing the company that made the chip a few months ago, and nothing ever came of it. They basically brushed me off even when offering to buy the tech sheets for the bloody chip.

    We're basically SOL with it.

The only way to overclock in the 78XX series is to basically upgrade your CPU (i recommend the t9800 for the best in show as the x9100 doesn't give much over it and has a higher TDP for a big 13mHz increase in speed)

I remember those. I was an early overclocker. Changed the crystal in my IBM 286 AT from 6mhz to 8mhz. Real OCrs of the time bought the AT clones and reved them up to 12mhz (or maybe 16). Millions to billions in 25 years. Gazillions next. Or am I talking about the federal debt?

My first PC was the AT clone with the epic 8mhz/14mhz TURBO!!!! switch lol We never found an app that was simple enough that it needed to come out of turbo mode though. I didn't actually overclock until I got a P-120 that ran P-133 speeds, from there it was an addiction.

Lol, now I'm remembering my first PC game ever. Electronic Arts Arctic Fox! Seriously though, that game was WAY ahead of its time. It was a long time before I played another game (Wolfenstein3d probably) that impressed me more.

Wolfenstein.. Great spinoff. I know this wasn't a PC game - Chrono Trigger from Nintendo was bomb, had an emulator on my PC for it to bring back memories. The good ol' days. Circa 1996 :)

So wait, on the 7series, you cannot OC the CPU even with a software/windows based tool? Only the GPU?

    That sucks :p.

Well.. "not so far" is going to be a continuing statement. But, why OC the CPU? A GPU OC provides great improvement, and a CPU OC causes instability. Spend $300 on a new CPU if you want..
