Buy it? I'm not sure I understand your question as it seems to have a simple answer. Maybe it's just me. :)

The Vista license on the bottom of your pc isn't 32/64 specific only version specific (basic, premium, ultimate). You own that license for Vista which means you can legally replace the 32 premium install with the 64 bit premium version. The only issue is that Gateway didn't provide a full OS disk, or they only provided you with the 32 bit disk. The 32 bit disk has installs for every version Vista in 32 bits and the 64 bit install disk has every version of Vista 64.

So, if you have access to a Vista 64 disk you may install the proper version (Vista 64 Premium) on your Laptop and activate it with your laptop's valid OS key. Of course, it must be activated within a certain period of time -or else. It used to be downloadable online but I think that too many people were probably downloading it and activating it illegally.

So really, all you need is a 64bit Vista install disk. I was able to obtain mine from Gateway CS because my laptop had a bad install when it arrived(serously!).

Call Gateway and tell them you need a 64-bit vista home premium disc, they'll send it out to you, might have to pay shipping though.

Yes. If you look in the forums there's even a guide on how best to do the upgrade, where your laptop's OS key is automatically entered when you finish the install.
