well i was determined to get the t9300 but i was persuaded today to get the t8300 cpu, its a little slowe with less cache memory but i got it for a stagering 84 pounds, so im pretty damb happy about it.

    should be here this week.

    cant wait

Congradulations, its a nice CPU, should certainly be an improvement over stick. Let us know how the install and testing go

Prime 95 or orthros or a similar program will all do about the same thing. Its just to test the CPU for instability and overheating

Reuse the thermal pad is fine. Do not use a thin paste as there is a gap on the northbridge to the fan the pastes will oooz out of and cause serious issues down the road...........

AS5, or better yet ICD, is great for the CPU just AS5 can't be used on the chipset. ICD can be used on the chipset though...........

it came, so my t8300 came this morning, eager to get it in , i opened it, and opened the gateway, removed the heat pipe, cleaned it tooo, oft it was full of crap.

stuck in the new cpu and bam, away it went. I used some artic silver 5 on the cpu, with some awsome results, seems to sit inbetween 15- 20 degrees.

whilst taking off the heat pipe i ripped the nvidia heat pad, so i just stuck some as5 on that 2, but i had a little problem with that, ill explain in a second.

so anyways, here is some pics, of the processor in the gateway, wasnt hard at all to get it in there.

ok now for the fun part, the gpu temp is still 40 degrees and thats with as5, so i though wonder how the new processor would bench.

first i ran the windows 7 experience score, the processor went from 4.9 to 6.0, so i was very happy, so i though ill run 3dmark06

left it all default and hit run, 4 mins in if that, the laptop just blink , gone, no power, turned itself off, i was like oh god no, the gpu, the thermal paste wasnt enuff.

so i turned it back on , its benching again the now, this time with the power supply plugged in, so far so good, if the problem persists what should i do, also whats normal operating temps for the gpu

OMG how cold is your ambient temp. Your CPU is idling at like 12(53) degrees!

actually its idleing at like up to 20 degrees celcious, the farenheight is 70 odd, so its running a hell of a cold, which is a great thing, my last cpu was like 30-40 idle, so this is a nice change

i dont understand why its so cold, i have a warm room, but its been on for a few hours now running nice and smooth, the next 3dmark test worked btw, after i plugged the charger in, must not have had the power it needed

Ah ok... i thought you might live at one of the poles :p

And yeah you have to keep it plugged in to run any benchmarks, the power plan kickes in on battery and will ruin any attempt to get a sucessful benchmark

    like good.

Your temps are insanely low. I would kill to have my x9000 run at 20 degrees, i'm ecstatic that it runs at 32-34 lol :)

could it be the as5, cause my room is usually quite hot , i cant wait to render some things on this, plus the cpu before it the stocl 1.8ghz ran about 50 -60 with my window closed. Yeah high and today i found out why, the fan and heatsink were mankey with dust

The good thermal goop helped, but no mostly its because the t8300 and t9300 run insanely cool for that generation.

Glad to hear you got good temps... not time for the occt stress test :p
