A couple days ago i ordered a p-6831 Fx off the best buy website, and the next day i noticed that a new model the p-6860 is now on the website.
Is it worth the extra 100$ for the mem, the bigger Hard drive and the 64bit vista? and if so, is it possible to cancel an order and be fully refunded and then just get a p-6860 once its in stores?
Or do i have to wait for the p-6831 to be delivered and return it, wasting the 20$ of shipping

if it did not ship then you should be able to cancel it or if it did ship maybe you can just take it down to your local bestbuy unopened and return it otherwise they will nail you with a 15 % restocking fee if opened.

RAM: See the RAM Deals thread...you can get more for less.
HDD: Easy to upgrade, and then you'd have the benefit of having two hard drives.
64bit OS: There are many driver issues with 64bit, thanks to vendors who didn't believe a 64bit Vista would succeed.
All-in-all, not worth going through the trouble IMHO. -
Ok, that sounds good, and hopefully best buy will discount the p-6831 even further in the next 30 days so i can take advantage of that

64 bit vista? "Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 preloaded
-
The bestbuy information shows 64bit vista, the empoyee book at the store and their web site

I'm in the same boat....my p-6831 arrives tomorrow. Was leaning towards taking it back and losing the $20 shipping and paying the extra $100 for the extra memory and disk space of the p-6860, but I'm really on the fence. Now thinking that the $120 might be better put towards a future cpu upgrade.

I would go for it - for an extra 100 - you get a better CPU, bigger HD and up to 4gb ram.

You can find a 10% bestbuy coupon on the web, that should help bring the P-6860 down $134.99
they come out the end of this week......

Thanks...That would be a great deal, but it doesn't appear that the coupon is good on new laptop purchases. Only Computer Accessories. Am I reading it wrong?
-
The coupon does not say laptops or computers, but they are not in the excluded part either, worth checking out, maybe our bestbuy poster would know.

id10t error dfw Notebook Consultant
Accessories only, unfortunately. Those coupons are just like the reward zone ones(not certificates, but the 10-12% coupon.
-
More is always better, and only $100.
-
id10t, you da man, thank you

Isn't it already established that the cpu in the more recently sold 6831s is the same (a 5550)?

im going to look at this tomm a friend just got one.. if i like it ill be just ordering the 31 model... save the money. now you can buy 4gb of ram for around 50$ w/ rebates or on sale. there are no 1.5gb sticks.. so one of them has to be a 2gb stick.. all of the use 667 ram.. so simply go get another 2gb stick for around 35-40$ and now you have 4gb..imo if i get one ill be dropping the new 500gb in or poss leaving the stock one and adding a 320gb.. plenty of storage on my notebook imo...
cpu would be the most important here but yes it is the same on the newer 31's as was the one my freind just got.. -
in a little problem
