hi..i want to buy a gateway laptop at best buy which i believe comes with 1 year limited warranty. following are my questions:

    (1) is this a worldwide warranty as i plan to take it back to india
    (2) will i get both phone support and also any repairs in case somethings broken?
    (3) by paying another 200 dollars can i get a global warranty for 3 years?
    (3) is there is a call center number i can call? there are no toll free numbers on gateway website for answering any sales queries of would be customers
    (4) they do not even have chat or email support to answer questions from customers intending to buy their laptops

    1. I dont think its a global warranty. BB can answer you on that.
    2. Croma electronic store in India sells a few Gateway model (netbooks i think) which i saw a few months back. So i guess there must be some kind of support in India (make sure you find that out).
3 Guess it depends on the manufaturer and not the retailer. Check this information out (old piece of information)
    4 Dont know abt that.
5 Gateways CS is outsourced (India i guess). Free supports are only for their present customers under warranty while others have to pay. Whether its free or paid, customers who have dealt with them says its horrible.

I agree. They dont have a customer service toll free number except for existing customers. I called up two of their numbers and also an acer customer service number and each one had a different story to tell. No one seems to know exactly whats going on.

The worst thing is that their email customer service too is limited to existing owners meaning they have no modes of communication with would be customers.

Its just that there is this 499 Core i5 laptop with Blue Ray on sale in BB that is irrestible or else i would not try this hard to buy a gateway.

    Thx

Taking a risk for such a config is definitely worth. Provided you get it for that price which i think cannot be guaranteed for long esp since its running of the shelves like hot cakes. Unless you really don't plan in big time gaming its going to be a decent laptop for quite some time. Laptops of these days are more into config than the build quality. So don't be let down by the cheap chassis. After all its only $499.
