I am wondering if anyone has created a site that can easily tell me what other models can be switched out for the motherboard in my Gateway MT3422 Laptop? (Or for any model laptop for that matter) The Gateway site is no help so far.

    Thanks

Short answer is no...the case was designed for that motherboard in order to prevent board swapping from happening and it is IP that keeps it that way. If your board needs replacing your left with something like Ebay to find a replacement board. And since you don't give out much info as what happened to your laptop or why it's hard to give help on.

    Gateway MT3422 Challenge

Yes. (Sorry it has taken me so long to respond) When I plug in the powercord the (right) light

(in front) comes on showing I have AC power pluged in. Then when I press the power/on button

the left blue light comes on (in front) and the light for the Hard Drive (it has what looks

like disks) blinks twice and at the same moment it sounds like the system is accessing the CD-

Rom drive. And that's it. It hangs there indefinitely.

    thank you. majikwiz

Well if it is what I think it is that would mean the Nvidia GPU has failed since your not seeing anything on the display would show the classic symptom of a GPU failure and your only options would be to go online to something like E-bay and order a matching motherboard with a repaired GPU or someone that can reflow the GPU so it will work again. Tell me if you get any display or black screen? That would tell more if black and nothing else is appearing after powering one that would indicate a GPU failure. But go back and try again to power up and tell me what else you see. Sometimes the GPU failure will beep at you as well but can't be for sure that is something you have to do and listen for or see what else happens.
