best buy optimized my laptop but when i opened my laptop, it has 2 partitions.one is empty and one is the OS.
do you know how to merge partitions? what program do i need?
-
no program is needed vista storage manager can do it.
however, thats you recovery partition, if you merge you will no longer be able to use gateway recovery center directly from the boot menu (no big deal) -
If you choose not to use the built in storage manager, or have problems getting it to work, the free gparted disc works wonders.

hey rain man how do you like those 7200's in your machine, any noticeable additional heat ?
-
They cause the wrist wrest area to become pretty hot if the laptop is shut and a hard drive process, such as defrag, is running. But on the whole I find them no hotter than my roomie who has a 173Xl with dual 320gb 5400rpm drives. I can tell you there is a noticeable difference in system response between the two tho.

wer is the vista storage manager?
-
right click my computer / manage / storage / disk management
-
im in disk management.wats the enxt step?
-
right click on the partition you want to remove / delete
right click on the partition you want to extend / extend volume
as easy as it gets -
the extend volume is grayed out though when i right click the partition.is there a way to fix this?
-
did you remove the other partition already ? you must have free space to extend into
-
-
you are the man
-
Just to be clear, in a muddy sort of way. I think the 7811 comes with 3 partitions. One of them is around 10GB and is hidden. This would be the recovery partition someone mentioned earlier.

thanks,guys.io merged the partitions. + rep to you guys
is there a way to merge partitions on 7811fx?
