Hello folks, i bought a MX 7515 from bestbuy last week. This is my first laptop, so i need some advice about the warranty. Is the 1yr warranty provided by the manufacturer enough or should i go for the 3yr warranty for $250. Is it worth the money?
    Thankyou,
    philip

I'd read the testimonials on this site about Gateway support. Certain credit cards give you another year.

I would recommend to buy the service plan, it can help a lot to make things go easier if you have a problem and you can return the service plan later (and get a refund) if you don't see any use in the future. Of course the refund amount would not be the same you paid (it decreases with time), but if you sell the laptop you can get part of the money back or even transfer the service plan to the buyer.

I sell the service plans, and i know they are worth it. Thats how i got my 7515... my other notebook's screen kept flickering, so i went from an emachines m6810 to a 7515. Best Buy has a new service plan that for the 7515 would cost 359 instead of 249, covers everything the 249 does and also covers if you drop it, spill something on it, etc. Its called ADH (accidental damage from handling) So as long as its an accident and not like impaled or immersed in the pool, covers bout everything...the screen up to 2 times (screens usually run 700bucks if you have to get it replaced. Liquids also normally void you service plan if they are found to be why like a port has gone out, etc. ADH covers it all. (including battery replacement like the 249 one does, power surge, normal wear and tear, all the ports, hardware, heat, humidity, dust) I sold 2 359$ ones today.. its a good deal and customers seem to see the potential benefits

Get the service plan, it is VERY much worth it, if anything for a single battery replacement alone after a year or two when it starts losing its charge.

As an example with my old HP Notebook.. it died while I was a work trip several states away from home. Completely utterly died, and I needed it the next day to do some presentations at a call center where I was doing some training. I took it into the local BestBuy there, and they were still selling the exact model of laptop that I had. They checked over my laptop to see that it was indeed dead, the laptop was devo, which means they can just ship it back to the manufacturer for credit, so they pulled the hard drive out, got a brand new laptop off the shelf, put my hard drive in it and sent me on my way.

That alone was worth the price. Manufacturer warranty? I'd probably still be waiting to get it back.

I bought the service plan when I got my MX7515, and I'm already on my second notebook (bought it a month ago). Get it. Well worth the money.

The 7515 probably has the most powerful processor available (well, other than boutique rigs with dual cores), but this series has suffered from a few problems in the past (cracking hinges, which I believe have been corrected, the screen flicker problem, etc.).

Get a warranty for as long as you intend to keep this notebook.
