I picked up my new 6860 a couple of days ago :D, and I love it. This is my first new laptop in about 5 years. I performed a clean install of Vista x64 and went through Les' Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide to optimize the system (thanks Les and everyone else who contributed to the guide).

However, I have been unable to install any of the Nvidia drivers other than the one that came with the system. I have followed lv2g's installation instructions and every other way I can think of to try to install the drivers (i.e. have disk method, setup.exe, rebooting to safe mode) with and without uninstallation of the previous driver. Windows keeps telling me that it determined that the most up-to-date driver is already installed. In the Device Manager the driver version is listed as 7.15.11.6746 (I believe that is 167.46) with a date of 11/15/2007.

If anyone else has run into this with a 6860 or Vista x64 and has come up with a solution, I would love to hear it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sweet! Thanks id10t. That worked without any problems. Reps to you. Have you been able to get any of the drivers newer than 174.31 to work? I downloaded a couple but didn't see the nv_dispd.inf.

Yeah, I got the .74's to work using the provided in the .zip disp inf file, but honestly I can't remember which one, possibly due to inebriating substances consumed while watching a hockey game... I'll look at it tomorrow afternoon to figure out which one.

I put .74 on my new 6860FX yesterday...

Uninstalled current drivers...reboot system...it reset back to Standard VGA.

Downloaded the 174.74 drivers for Vista 64bit www.laptopvideo2go.com

Copied the nv_disp.inf file from the original_inf(s).zip file into the directory. *note* there is a original_inf(s).zip file and a original_inf(s) sub directory. Have to use the one from the zip file not the directory. The way windows shows zip files as directories might lead to confusion.

Then did the driver update from device driver in control panel. Picked have disk then pointed to the directory and picked the nv_disp.

    Worked just fine.
