I bought philips lightscribe dvd-r but when I try to use the lightscribe program that came with this laptop it says that I don't have a lightscribe drive. Downloaded a different program same think happened. Any ideas would be helpful. Looked for a driver update didn't see one.

have you tried updating the drivers? go to www.lightscribe.com if you havent done so
also what program are you using? -
Cyberlink Labelprint that come with this laptop. I downloaded lightscribe control panel and in the system information it says no lightscribe drive found. Do not see the driver you mentioned.

It's not lightscribe, it's Label Flash. Same result, though.

If I remember correctly, and I may not, labelflash and lightscribe disks are not the same...

The Optiarc drive in Gateways is Labelflash, NOT lightscribe. I don't think the discs are interchangeable.

I can't get my Labelprint working either. I sent an email to Cyberlink to see if they could fix it, but I am kind of doubting they will, as the P-6831 doesn't come with the discs used to download it onto the computer. I did a clean install of Vista, and transfered the LabelPrint file over to the new windows file. It worked for a day, then it reported that a file was missing. I found that file, and then it said another file was missing. It went on like this, and I finally gave up.
This is off topic, but the Old Windows file doesn't seem to do anything, and it is taking up hard drive space. Is there any negative effect for deleting it from my hard drive? -
You also need the Label Flash disks, more expensive than Lightscribe disks. This is becoming a mini blue ray vs HD thing for disk labelers!
If you get nowhere you may want to use your built in restore function to get your software back to as new. A pita but good practice if you have the time, and what gateway may ask you to do. -

Drivers disk? I only got a Windows Vista disk with the laptop. I did a clean install with Vista, and everything that used to be on the computer got sent to the Windows.Old file on my computer. I can't re-use any of these files so I was just wondering if it would do anything to all of the other data stored on my hard drive if I deleted the Windows.Old file. The worst part about it is I lost Labelprint and Bejeweled.

You were supposed to make the drivers/Apps disk, as per owners manual. The .Old should have all your original files as per others. I think Gateway can send you the disk drivers for $? No problem to delete the .old file as long as you don't need it and have your drivers backed up.
I think the Cyberlink download was posted a few post up, try that or check at the Gateway download area. -
I didn't make that disc... I guess I messed up there. The .Old file does have all the original files, but it seems I am not able to access them, or if I can access them they do nothing.
I'll try downloading the Labelflash soon.
