    Hey Guys,

I recently got a Gateway M-1617 at Best Buy for Christmas and just about a week ago "Downgraded" to XP Pro from 32-bit Vista. Since then I've had numerous driver issues, most of which I've been able to fix, however one big one is the fact that I can't get my Ethernet port to work or even be recognized. I've spoken to Gateway directly and of course they only facilitate Vista drivers since that's what all their laptops come pre-installed with. They referred me to the motherboard manufacturer (which by the way was a serial number since the tech support rep couldn't even give me an answer on that) but as of yet I have had no luck. Has anyone successfully fully converted an M-1617 to XP or am I damned to walk the lonely, incompatible road of Vista forever? Any help or drivers you guys could link up or post would be much appreciated, especially the aforementioned Ethernet one.

    Thanks Much,

    Trevor

Hey this is whitewolfmac. I have the same laptop. I have every thing working all for my network card, and the 3 unknown devices. I am working on the network card now. I will send the files to you and give you help. I do not know about the 3 unknown. I will look in to that latter. just give me some time and it will be done.

Thanks Whitewolf, anything you could do to help would be much appreciated as Vista just isn't an option if I can help it.

ok I have it working now. My network cade is a realtek RTL8101. To get it to work i used the vista driver, from the Gateway web site. Then I uninstalled it. Then installed a driver i found from the web. I do not have the url any more i lost it, but i do have the driver. I will find a way to get it to you. I am going to but all the drivers i used as a set on the net. I will give you that url when i have it setup, there will also be a list of what to do 1st. You will know what i mean when i get the set out there.

I will try to but the files on a site for you to all download them. I will have all the drives needed. I do not have the ones for the unknown. If you have them give them to me so I upload them to. Now one thing that I did with my laptop is i have a xp setup cd with all my drivers on it, so every time i redo windows i dont have to but up with drivers. I use a software called nlite. What I will not do it upload my xp setup cd iso. If you want one you will have to make it. Microsoft will not be happy if i did.

Searching through these forums I managed to get wireless working. The only 'problem' left is the card reader,it is permanently displayed in windows explorer, even when there is no card inserted into it.
Anybody has any solution for this?
And one other thing, has anybody tested HDMI on XP,does it work? Do I need any special drivers for HDMI?
