I here its mixed results for the 7811. Do I go with 1066 cl 7-7-7-20 or 1333 9-9-9-24? Looking at 8gig kit. Which brand and which brand uses Samsung chips? G-Skill Crucial Corsair???

I'd ask where do you see a bad report on upgrading? I haven't seen a problem with any memory specifically. These tend to work with all the 8 GB DDR3 1066 and 1333 out there. It will however only run up to 1066 only.

The main issue may be CAS. While most 1066 is rated 7.7.7 you may be taking your chances with 1333 memory. SPD usually is 7.7.7.20 for 1333 cas 9 memory this is no garenty. Although JDEC for SPD usually will include running at 1066 again the CAS is not a lock in.

The same can be said of any memory and 1T command rate. the fact you are having 2 4GB sticks will give you synchronous dual channel.

I can tell you the 1333 memory I have in the identical P7805 runs at 1066 MHz 7.7.7.20 1T............

What Tanware said, he and a couple of others went with the 90 dollar deal on the GSkill 1333 with great results. http://forum.notebookreview.com/gateway-emachines/535743-8gb-89-99-a.html

They have some 1066 GSkill at 100 now after 15 dollar code. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231294 till 12/8

I ordered some of the Geil 1333 4gbx2 they had on sale for 100 which also included a kingston 4gb usb drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144468 Price is now back to 132. Will see how it works when it gets here. Have used Geil in some of my destops over the years with no issues.

The Geil 4gb x 2 1333 came in today. Installed it and so far so good. Running at 7-7-7-20 1T. Have not had a chance to run Memtest on them yet.

Still running Vista and showing 5.9 on the ram which is where it was prior I believe. Total is 5.7 with the processor being the lowest all others 5.9.
Come to think of it Vista doesn't go any higher than 5.9 does it?
Not much else I can do to this old machine except an SSD. So far have done:

    Internal Bluetooth module
    BluRay drive
    X9100 @ 3.3ghz, 1.1875v
    8gb ram
    2 250gb HD's in RAID 0
