Contact online chat tech support. The tech guy will email you a web link to the driver you need. You can also go to the gateway support site and search for MX6025. You will see the audio driver available for download.

I have had one of these computers for about a month and am having the same exact problem. The Gateway tech's suggestions were no help at all. The audio driver download from the site is called D00245-001-001.exe. and will not fix the problem. After reinstallation of XP you will lose your video resolution as well, but the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 download from Gateway will fix that, no problem.

In device manager under other devices "Multimedia Device Controller" there is a yellow question & exclamation mark beside the device, and clicking it puts up a 'The Driver Has Not Been Loaded' or similar message. Installing the driver as per instructions will bring up configuration codes and the problem will remain. If anyone discovers how to actually fix this problem please post it here so others can benefit. Thank you.

I googled AC97 Audio, downloaded a realtek set of drivers, installed and have full sound. All i need now are the wireless drivers. Lemme see if I can find a link for the sound driver download.

Here's the link I used to download the drivers and it works just fine.

I followed the link and the download would not start no matter what site I tried it from. I did find the file from a European site and the file started to load but became corrupted after 2mb's and shut down, so I loaded the immediate previous version of WDM378 and installed it with no problem, but with no luck in fixing the sound problem.

Do you have the MX6025 computer?

Yeah, I have the MX6025. The link worked fine for me about two weeks ago. I probably should have gone to realtek's website first , but when googled, that page came up first.

Success! I am happy to report that Realteks servers were operational this time around, so I was able to get the latest download. The first poster mentioned file version WDM380...but the second link gave me file WDM381. Whoppee! It really did the trick. I now have sound from my laptop, although it is not exactly concert grade through the tiny thimble-sized speakers.

To those who ave reformatted and lost their sound...Gateway is attempting to sell a CD-Rom to fix this problem for $20. I would not recommend buying it as it has the older 1.9mb Conexant D00245-001-001.exe file on it that does not work...nor does the newer 702kb version of the same file provided on Gateways website, although some of the downloads from that site do in fact work, so to the original poster looking for a wireless codec, they might have one that will work.

Thanks to those that provided information. Now if I can just find a free cd burning program and a free dvd player codec I will be all set.

There was no listing for a wireless nic under the MX6025. I bought a Belkin 802.11g pcmcia for connectivity so no rush on the wireless driver. I bought Nero OEM for $4 online, and Cyberlink DVD OEM for $4 online as well, no minimum order. Goto http://www.pricewatch.com for good deals on OEM software.
